My newly-discovered instant-gratification-knitting love is baby soakers (read: knitted covers for cloth diapers). Ohmygoshthey’resocute!!! My friend Chrispy is due in October and, in true crunchy-granola style, is planning to use cloth diapers, so she needs soakers. She doesn’t want to use superwash wool for soakers b/c it’s not as absorbent, and seeing as how she’s The Queen Of The Malabrigo Junkies, Malabrigo seemed most appropriate. (I know, some would consider it sacrilege to use Mmmmmalabrigo on a soaker, but in this case, it’s appropriate.)
Here are the two I’ve finished and the one that’s stalled, waiting for more coordinating bits to use. So far, I’ve only used yarn from my “Malabrigo Party” leftovers bag. Chrispy doesn’t know the baby’s gender yet, so I’m using what I have, even if it’s rather gender-specific colors. If the baby’s a girl, I’ll embroider a pink heart or flower on the blue soaker. If the baby’s a boy, I’ll have to give the pink & purple one to someone else. They’re all knit from the Frantic Mama soaker pattern, which is written in four sizes. Each one here is in a different size.
