              What I liked, disliked, and

              learned in 5th grade

                 By Thing One

I learned a lot of important things this year and most of us learned the same things, some learned the hard way. I liked many things this year to. One I liked so much that when it was over I cried. I hated one thing this year especially. I will now tell you about them.

One thing I learned in 5th grade was that Math is important, yet sometimes impossible to learn. I also learned that by 5th grade, your best girlfriends either abandon you to some other girl, they become snobby, or they fall for some jerk guy. If that ever happens to you, try becoming a tomboy. You learn ruder snide remarks and guys are fun to hang out with. They even make up awesome war games.

The thing I liked the most was going to Outdoor Ed. You get away from annoying younger sibling(s) and bossy parents for a week! You also learn a lot of nature stuff. I made lots of new friends and one of them lives in my neighborhood! I remember on the 2nd night, we had a rabid mouse in our cabin. Then another cabin near us had a rabid squirrel in their cabin and it started coming for us! It didn’t get us though.

The thing I hated most this year was having to go to Kumon every day (except on Wednesdays, holidays, and on weekends) for the rest of the school year and twice a week for summer vacation! At least I get rides on Monday and Thursday with a friend. Now I have Kumon homework on top of regular homework. I have plenty of homework as it is!

Now you know about what I learned this year, what I liked most, and what I hated year. I hope that when you get into 5th grade, you have as much fun as I did, but not the bad experiences.

OK, I posted this once, but my flaky DSL barfed right as I hit “post”, so now all you get is pictures, not a whole paragraph of text, lol.

Just A Quickie

Something to soften the blow of my friend Lisa’s 40th birthday.  I took this photo in the car right after I bound off the last stitch.  Dontcha just lurrrrve the wrinkled jowls?  Oh, well.  Just goes to show I don’t look 100% like my mom; I have a little bit of my dad in me, too, lol.

Formal Dinner

Not quite sure what sparked it - maybe watching a bunch of Jack Ryan movies w/Washington, D.C. folks, etc. - but yesterday the Things decided we had to have “A Formal Electorial [sic] Dinner” for President Benji of Dogworld.  They did all the work - planned the menu, cooked the food, set the table, etc.  They kept insisting it was “black tie”, so I decided for once not to be a wet blanket, and I got all dressed up.  From the back of the closet, I pulled a really nice black dress - SIZE 12, PEOPLE!!!! - that I haven’t worn since before I got pregnant with Paul, put on a long string of pearls and some pumps.  Turns out, Thing One was the only other one who got dressed up, but it was fun.  Of course, since I’m the designated photographer, there’s no proof of my wearing the dress, but I assure you that I did.

Chef Pierre

Thing One had a homework assignment recently called “Yucky Cooking With Chef Pierre” that had to do with practical use of fractions, etc.  She was really tickled by it, so on Wednesdy when Joey & Jaeda were here (two of my carpool kids whom I’m watching after school on M&W for a few weeks), she put on a bit of a show for them:

80’s Pics

The married folk in our area of the church are putting on a big 80’s party in a couple of weeks, and Hubby volunteered to put together a slideshow if people would email him pictures of themselves “back in the day”.  Me, I’m hoping to get “surprise” photos from people who used to live around here at that time but have moved away.  I’m sure some of them have some great blackmail material…I mean old photos of people who will be at the party.  If this applies to you, please, please email me the pictures!

Meanwhile, here a couple of examples of the hair and glasses Hubby and I had, circa 1989.  (No, we did not know each other then; we met 2 or 3 years later.  That was, however, the hair style & glasses he had when we met.)
