A Lesson

Behold, my friends, one of the many reasons you should ALWAYS SWATCH when you knit a sweater, even if it’s a pattern you’ve used several times before:

What, you may ask, is the big deal about this (besides the fact that the motif is off-center)?  Well, ya see, this is the sweater that was supposed to be Baby David’s birthday gift….OK, are you done laughing now?  Ya see, I was knitting the 12-18 months size and didn’t finish it before the party.  Good thing, b/c I found out Baby David wears a size 24 months.  I did the math to make it two sizes bigger, but ya see, I never swatched the darn thing.  As I was knitting along, I saw that it was big, but I kept telling myself, “Well, it’ll shrink some the first time I wash it.”  Yeah.  Right.  As I was getting close to the bottom last night, I had to face reality, and I discovered that it actually fits Thing Two.  She’s EIGHT.  Baby David is ONE.  Uh, yeah.  After all that work, I’m not going to frog it, and she doesn’t want it, so I’m just going to finish it and give it to…I dunno.  Andrei?

Baby David’s Birthday Party

Saturday was the big “We made it through the first year!” birthday party for Baby David (Hubby’s cousin’s one-year-old grandson).  We had a great day for it - lots of sun, not too hot, and only a brief period of crazy, blow-everything-away wind.  Click on pictures for bigger, explanations of who’s who, etc.

Sunday, we had Cousin Jesse’s big 18th birthday party.  After taking so many pictures on Saturday, I put Hubby in charge of Sunday’s pictures.  Unfortunately, Hubby was tired, and I don’t think he took a single one.  Darn!  Sorry, Cuz; we DO love you!

Cupcake

This is the only kind of cupcake I can deal with these days - a cupcake hat for a friend’s daughter’s first birthday today.  Cute, yes?

Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho…

…it’s off to (Daddy’s) work we go!

Yesterday was national Take Your Daughters And Sons To Work Day.  Hubby’s employer did a scaled-down version this year b/c of all the stuff going on in the company right now.  The girls went to school for a few hours in the morning, then I picked them up and took them down there in time for lunch and the science fair.  As you can see, they had a great time.  You would think this meant I had an afternoon off, but not really b/c I still had to drive my carpool kids, which meant two trips to and from school b/c one of them stays late on Thursdays.  Bummer.  Oh, well.

Click on pictures for bigger, captions, etc.

Overheard

[Ralph Peters, being interviewed on Your World w/Neil Cavuto]

The president has made more promises than a sixteen-year-old in the backseat of a car on a Saturday night.

Love it!  I think this could be said about every president during his first 100 days, yes?

WIP - Another Baby Gift

I have a lot on the needles and more coming, so OF COURSE I cast on the other day for a Baby Surprise Jacket for the baby currently known as “Nerd Junior”.  He’s not due for a few months, but I just HAD to start this once I knew the gender.

A Mother’s Day WIP…I Think

I keep getting distracted by other things, but I believe this is going to be a Mother’s Day gift.  I think.

This would have been better in a single color, but I didn’t have enough yarn for that, hence the two-tone look.

A Finished Baby Gift

The actual knitting was done a couple of weeks ago, but I bought the wrong buttons.  I finally found some perfect buttons the other day @ Cottage Yarns, so here it is!

You Know The Drill…

You know how these things work.  Go for it!

1. My ex….is still the reigning King of Puns, judging by what I’ve read on Facebook.

2. Maybe I should be….doing housework instead of farting around on the computer.

3. I love…..but not perfectly.

4. People would say that I …. am a bit “tightly wound” at times.

5. I don’t understand….why some people can’t be grown-ups and accept responsibility for their actions.

6. When I wake up in the morning….. I wonder how long I can stay in bed and still get the kids to school on time.

7. I lost….. it yesterday, worrying about Mike Amodeo, but it helped when Bobcat prayed w/me.

8. Life is full of…..unanswerable questions.

9. My past taught me……things I’m still trying to unlearn.

10. I get annoyed when…..my kids are “mommying” me to death.

11. At a party I…..can get really insecure and therefore want to hover over the food, stuffing my face instead of dealing with people, which makes me fat, which makes me insecure, which makes me…

12. I wish…… I could go to Singapore with Hubby this summer for two weeks without the kids.

13. Dogs…..I usually prefer bigger dogs, but I do like Boston Terriers.

14. Cats…..are less hassle.

15. Tomorrow…..our family has to go in three different directions in the evening.

16. I have a low tolerance for…….people with a “victim” mentality.

17. If I had a million dollars…..I’d pay off our house and HELOC and remodel our kitchen.

18. I’m totally terrified of…..losing Hubby and the Things.
