THE BIG PROJECT

THE BIG PROJECT is now 40% done, according to my desktop calculator.  It’s back on track, and “the boss” is happy with how it’s going.  Whew!  I soooo wish I could show ya’ll pictures, but I can’t.  Not for a long time.  Sorry!

I’m DYING to get this thing finished - not just b/c it’s overdue, but b/c I’m not used to being so monogamous in my knitting, and there are so many other things I’m itching to cast on - baby gifts, shawls, Swiffer covers (cheaper than buying the paper covers), etc.  Gaaaah!

Silliness

These are some pictures I found on my camera the other day after Thing Two had gotten hold of it:

Old Friends

Last weekend was our annual church conference, this year called RISE (as in rising above the challenges in your life, rising to the occasion, etc.).  One of the best parts of going is seeing friends I don’t get to see very often.  I brought along my camera but forgot to get it out till Saturday night after the final message.  D’oh!  Anyhow, here are the few pictures I got:

These are all people I’ve known for 20+ years, most for 25 years.  Two were roommates of mine at one time or another during college.  Knowing some of what all these people have gone through over the years, it’s inspiring to me to see them content, persevering, and doing well in life.

Knitting Update

Not much to tell you, but since this is partly a knitting blog, I thought I ought to say *something* about my knitting.

  • I’m plugging away on THE BIG PROJECT.  As soon as I get off the computer, I’m going to go get settled in for a long session on it.  (Sorry, still can’t tell you anything about it.)
  • The red baby blanket is stalled (see above).
  • The pinwheel blanket is mostly stalled (see above).  I have, however, been able to make a little slow progress on it, taking it with me as my take-along project for standing in lines, sitting outside Thing Two’s classroom in the afternoon, shorter car rides - situations when I can’t take THE BIG PROJECT.  I started the sixth skein of Tahki Cotton Classic yesterday.  The seventh skein will be for the edging & bind-off, so I’m nearly there.
  • The poor, pathetic Fixation socks from a year ago are still stalled.
  • Bobcat’s poor birthday scarf from a year ago is still stalled.
  • Don’t even talk to me about Christmas knitting, ‘kay?

Because I bought yarn in Singapore and because I have three friends or acquaintances who are pregnant, I’m itching to cast on some baby stuff, but I just can’t let myself do that till after THE BIG PROJECT is done.

Knit on!

The Drama Has Begun…

(Throwing homework paper on floor) Then I’m NOT going to do it!

I don’t think that’s a very good idea.  I don’t think you’ll like the consequences of that.

I’m not going to do ANYTHING.  I’m not even going to EAT!  I’m going to stay in here for the rest of my LIFE!

(Slight pause as I made sure to keep my face neutral, not smiling at her melodrama) Well, then it’s going to be a pretty short life.  I’ll go get started on the funeral arrangements.

Ahhhh, fifth grade.  Puberty.  Mothers and daughters.  As a result of all the homework drama and how she escalated it, we had a talk w/her last night about how a birthday party is a privilege, not a right, and we told her that if her behavior remains bad like this, she will not get to have a party.  (Not sure what I’d do with all the stuff I already bought for it, but we’ll cross that bridge if & when we come to it, eh?)  I had a little chat w/her teacher, Mrs. T, this morning and am now officially in cahoots with her.  I think we’ll work well together.

Grandma’s Birthday Party

So, Grandma Ruthie had a trip out here planned so she could go to a spa for a few days with her sisters.  Beforehand, she was going to stay at Rick/Adri’s house for a couple of days.  Adriana planned a barbecue so we could all see her AND celebrate Grandma’s birthday.  Unbeknownst to Grandma, Grandpa planned to come out and arrive during the party.  She was quite surprised and pleased.  NOW, she’s jealous b/c while she’s at the spa, Grandpa is spending time with the grandkids w/o her.  Yesterday, he took Thing One & Thing Two to Pier 39 while I stayed home, worked on THE BIG PROJECT, cleaned, etc.

Thanks to Adriana, I have some pictures for you:
