Sorry about the lapse there, gang. Let’s see…what has happened in the interim?
HOUSE: The latest batch of work on the house is done. Pictures coming soon if I can figure out how to make them half-way interesting. We now have recessed lighting in the living room, a light in our entryway, and a light in our master closet. Woot. The next time we have money (this used up our “stimulus” money), we’ll get new front & back doors, new interior doors, a doorbell, and a new light fixture on our front porch (and move it back to the original location).
WEATHER: The heat is gone, but now we’ve got lots of wind. Wind + Pollen = ALLERGIES –> HEADACHES. Not fun. I spent the day in bed today, fighting a nasty headache. This means I’ve got lots to do tomorrow because…We’re having a big Memorial Day barbecue on Monday. Should be fun. We have an interesting assortment of people coming — knittaz, friends from church, friends from the Things’ school, neighbors.
MILESTONE: I ain’t namin’ names, but somebody in this house hit a big milestone this week. There are now a bunch of little garments in the house with labels on them that say “30A”. Oh, my.
UPDATES: We saw our friend Matthew on Saturday at a mutual friend’s party. He was laughing and talking, playing ping-pong, and playing on the Wii. (Thing One was all excited that she beat him at baseball AND bowling, and I bit my tongue to keep from saying, “Wow! You beat a stroke victim!” She was so proud that she beat an adult.) The only indication that anything had happened to him was a few things he said that were a little off or inappropriate. It was like that part of his brain that would normally tell him “You may think that, but don’t say it” was faulty. As you may have caught in one of my posts last week, our friend Teresa is responding really well to chemo. All her tumors (more than they can count) have gone down anywhere from 45% to 75% from just the first six weeks of chemo. Amazing. Our friend Delmy isn’t doing too well. Not sure if I’ve mentioned her before, but she could use some prayers. She spent about a week in the hospital, and they never did find out what was causing her mysterious swelling and pain. It’s a tough job, balancing trying to treat her cancer w/o causing her body to reject her liver (she had a transplant 15+ years ago). On Sunday, we found out that our friend “Grandma Elsie” at church also has cancer and is undergoing chemo. She’d had pneumonia recently and then went to the doctor with a persistent cough. They suspected that she had TB, so the hospitalized her immediately and put her in isolation. With testing, the discovered cancer and started her on chemo right away. She’s home now and getting lots of help, but I’m sure it’s taking a great toll on her, since she’s 83 years old. I also heard something last night about our friend Cynthia being ill, but I need to get more info. Yupp, there’s a LOT going on.
SCHOOL/SUMMER: Not many days left! The last day of school is Thursday, June 5th. Woot! Now, to organize the year-end lunch for the teachers, staff & PTA folks….
