Scheming

To a 10-year-old girl, this room looks acceptably clean.  To her parents, it does NOT.
PB200007 PB200008 PB200009 PB200010  Clearly, it’s time for another purge.  I was thinking that I would do what my mom did to me and do a thorough cleaning and purge while she’s at Outdoor Ed, but that’s not until January.  If I have to wait that long, either the Health Department will condemn her room or there will be bloodshed.  It definitely has to get fixed up before Christmas.  Anybody out there got any tricks for getting fifth-grade girls to clean their rooms, or do I need to call up Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle?

This is what Thing Two prepared for us last night for our anniversary.  Very cute.

And THIS is the card from Hubby:
PB200017 How perfect is THAT?  What? You don’t understand?  Well, apart from what it says inside that I won’t tell you, take a look at what the wife in the picture is doing:

KNITTING!  (Actually, just posing; no one holds their right needle that far back, but still…)  Like I said, how perfect is THAT?!  Ya gotta love a guy who manages to find such a supremely appropriate card, eh?

Cutting the Cord…at Last!

Yes, folks, I’m finally going to ship off TPTAML today.  Wish me luck!  If this thing gets lost or damaged in shipping, I’ll probably commit harakari!

Overheard

Me:  Girlies, which one of you sat on the toilet picking your nose, then wiped it off?

T1:  Not me!

T2:  Not me!

Me:  Then why are there boogers on the shower curtain right at that level?

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO US!

NOVEMBER 19, 1995:

rockstar007

For those who weren’t there, here’s the rundown of the music at our wedding; it doesn’t quite match with the formal look of it…

  • “Thank You” by Led Zeppelin
  • “If I Could” - No idea who this was by, but a former roomie of mine sang it.
  • “Fanfare for Rocky” (guys’ entrance)
  • “Can’t Help Falling in Love” - UB40 version (bridesmaids’ entrance)
  • “Little Wing” - performed live by a friend (my entrance)
  • “I’ll Stand by You” by the Pretenders, performed live by a friend (unity candle mushiness)
  • “Two Tickets to Paradise” by Eddie Money (exit)

Mille grazie to all who participated that day and who’ve helped us beat the odds and get this far.

The Birthday Has Begun!

Ahhh…I love the birthdays that last for weeks or even months!

First, Nana combined my birthday & Christmas gifts (at my request) to help me pay for my registration for two classes at Stitches West 2009.  Yes, it’s not till the end of February, so it will be some seriously delayed gratification, but since we’ve been cutting back in prepartion for our refinance and to get out of debt, OPM (other people’s money) was the only way I could justify the $150 expense.  Soooo, one class on pattern writing with (cough) Melissa Leapman (cough, cough) and a class on ergonomics for knitters.  Then of course there’s the market.  Now, how to come up with some spending money for the market????

These wonderful items arrived in the mail this week, courtesy of my thoughtful SILs, Adri & Diane respectively:

Friday night at the marriage retreat, I ran into MEY, who handed me a gift bag containing this bracelet (which I wore all weekend!).  She thought of me when she saw it b/c it looks so much like my wedding ring:

MILLE GRAZIE to all!  It has been a great birthday so far, and I still have eight days until the actual day.  44 is one of those strange, in-between numbers, but I think it will be a good year…

BREAKING NEWS….

As I was typing that last post, an email came through from Poppa.  He was forwarding the email his boss at Stanford Magazine sent out to all the employees, announcing Poppa’s January 31, 2009 retirement date.

Yes, after working since 1949, Poppa is FINALLY retiring.  GO, POPPA!  GO, POPPA!  GO, POPPA!
