D-R-A-M-A

P9270007c
Uh, oh.  What’s this?  What could it mean?

P9270006c
Oh, dear.  This does NOT look good.  You can see what’s coming, can’t you????

P9270005c
Who could that girl be with the short haircut?

P9270004c
THING ONE?!  But, who gets her hair cut at home at 10:00 at night after her birthday party?  A girl who refuses to brush her hair thoroughly who has horrendous matts in her hair and won’t let anyone else brush it either, THAT’S who.

I gave her four options:

  1. You can brush it.
  2. I can brush it.
  3. Dad can brush it.
  4. I can cut it.

Guess which one she chose?

For someone who doesn’t have a clue what she’s doing, I think I did an OK job of it.  We can go see the hair stylist in a few days and have her fix it, but this should be OK for now.  It’s kind of sad, considering how thick and wonderful her hair was, but if she’s not going to take care of it, this is how it’s going to have to be for now.  Oh, and don’t tell her the haircut makes her look younger, OK?  That can just stay between us.

BTW, aren’t her new glasses cool?

Birthdez-Vous?

P9220012 P9220013 P9220014

In the middle of all this fun w/the costumes, the mail came, including some packages.  As soon as the packages were opened, they had MORE fun:

Thing One likes that her robe is different from Thing Two’s (a light, drapey knit fabric instead of a warmer felt/fleece one) b/c this way they’ll look different.

Tonight, we’re having a dinner that Thing One chose:  Homemade fried chicken, mac & cheese, salad for Hubby & me, then going to Baskin-Robbins so she can get her free ice cream cone.  Good times!

Knittus Interruptus

We interrupt the current big-project knitting to bring you the following special announcement:

Friday, I was feeling guilty that I wasn’t able to make Thing One her promised hooded cotton cardi for her birthday, so I did a little stash-diving and came up with these.  I think she’ll like them.  BTW, the bear’s name is Pinky, hence, well, anyhow, you get it….

We now return you to your regularly-scheduled knitting already in progress.

Day In The Park / Car Show

For once, I remembered to bring my camera when we went to the annual Day in the Park @ the park down the street from our house.  This year was a slightly bigger deal b/c 2008 is the 100th anniversary of the city’s incorporation.  They have booths, demonstrations, food, music, performances, a petting zoo, and a car show.  I had orginally intended to have a booth there (the booths are free!), but The Project That Ate My Life has me too busy for that.  There were many other booths with handknit and crocheted items, though.  Really, an event like that is not the best place for me b/c my stuff is definitely…higher-end than what was there.  Hubby wanted me to take some pictures to show what *was* there so ya’ll could see why, but I didn’t think that would be very nice.  Let’s just say that there was a lot of Lion Brand Homespun and a lot of acrylic ponchos, ‘kay?

The really big thing this year was that Thing One wanted to go off by herself to meet her friend, and Hubby convinced me to let her.  I was pretty terrified b/c there are thousands of people at this event, but there are also a lot of cops everywhere, and we gave her Hubby’s cell phone and showed her how to call mine.  I walked around with my phone in my hand so that I wouldn’t miss a call from her.  Hubby swears that I called her five minutes after she left us, but it had to have been at least…seven minutes.  After a while, she started calling me every 10 minutes or so. She never found her friend, but she spent a lot of time in the petting zoo, watched the police dog demonstration, and checked out the car show.  Boyyyy, cuttin’ them apron strings is HARD!

Here are some of my faves from the car show:

Overheard

Mom, can I finish this later?

Oh, you want to go play with Thing One?

Yeah.

Sure.

Yeah, I want to play with her as much as I can now, before she becomes a teenager and she’s on the phone and all “Yadda, yadda, yadda” and she doesn’t want to play with me.

Knitting Update

THE BIG PROJECT:  67.56% done.  It’s been a slow week b/c I wasn’t feeling well for a couple of days, and I’ve been having big problems w/my back and my wrist and hands.  It was slow progress, but progress all the same.  Must.  Finish.  Soon.  This monogamous knitting is killing me!  Plus, I have UFO’s to finish and Christmas knitting to do.  Ack!

OTHER KNITTING:  My portable car/waiting room knitting has progressed also:
