Hubby’s Turn

Last night was Hubby’s turn to go to the ER.  When I got home from church, he didn’t feel good, said he had a stomach ache.  As time went on, it got worse.  He took everything we could think of, but he still felt like he had a rock just below his ribcage.  He even tried to make himself throw up to feel better (he couldn’t).  Finally, b/c he couldn’t do anything but pace around, he decided to go to the ER.  He didn’t want to wait for me to get someone to come drive him or to stay here w/the girls while I drove him, so he grabbed a big bowl in case he puked and drove himself to the hospital.  (As you can imagine, I was freaking out, imagining his having a car accident on the way, etc., etc.)

It’s a good thing he didn’t wait b/c once he was at the hospital, his pain got worse.  They doped him up with morphine, gave him a CT scan, and discovered that he has gall stones.  He got home about 5:00 this morning.  After sleeping a couple of hours, he felt totally normal, so he and the Things went to work together for “Take Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day”.  He’s supposed to change his diet for a couple of days and go see a doctor to talk about treatment options.  I’m guessing he’ll opt for removal; there’s NO WAY he ever wants to go through that again.

Now everyone in the family has been to the Seton ER at some point….

Ouch! I had gall stones…no fun at all! I did have that darned gall blatter taken out but recently found out that even though you have no gall blatter you can still get those awful gall stones! UGH! :) Glad to see you back posting!

Having been through gall bladder attacks until I could be scheduled to get the blasted thing out, I know what he’s going through. Tell him to avoid anything the least bit fatty. I think I existed for the 3 months it took on plain mashed potatoes with Molly McButter and jelly beans. The latter have flavor which you miss on a no-fat diet and didn’t set off any attacks.

How scary for you but at least the problem can be fixed.

I was having a lot of pains for 3 years and no one knew what was wrong. Finally someone suggested it and sure enough… serious gall stones. Runs in my family… i was 24. Since then, a total of 13 people on both sides of the family have had theirs removed… yea, good genes!! :) I would recommend it… the pain was horrific!
