Stitches West
YES, I got to go this year. Yippeee! This is me and Suzann, having coffee before we braved the Stitches Market. It was great to meet another online knitting friend in real life.
HIGHLIGHTS: I saw Vickie Howell. She ran past us, looking all stressed out like she was late. She spent the rest of the day in the Southwest Trading Company booth, signing stuff, etc. This probably sounds catty, but I must say that it was nice to see someone with such a cutesie-pie image looking…like a normal person. I also got to meet Cirilia, who is just as nice in person as you would think. I wanted to yell at Kathy & Steve, “But is she letting you TALK today, Steve?”, but the line at the Webs booths was way too long. I ran into Jenny & Nicole at the Brooks Farm booth (Jenny, did you buy that large amount of yarn you had draped over your left arm?). I spotted Cookie A. over by the Ravelry table, but I didn’t go meet her or anything; it seemed a little dumb to say, “Hi, you’re Cookie A. I haven’t knit any of your patterns, but I think you’re cool, and I’ll get around to knitting them one of these days.” (I thought about Kinnearing her, but didn’t.) I stopped by the Full Thread Ahead booth to say “hi” to Lu, who looked great in her Simple Knitted Bodice.
YARN: Yarn. Yeah. You’re thinking I’m going to come out with some big confession about the buttload of yarn I bought, aren’t you? Well, guess what - I DIDN’T BUY ANYTHING! Yupp, I know that’s hard to believe, but it’s true, and here are the reasons Hubby forbade me to buy anything:
- I had to pay $700+ to the dentist on Thursday for stuff from last year for me & the Things that insurance didn’t cover.
- I had to buy bras on Friday, and that came out to $156 and change. For TWO bras. (See, having ginormous boobs isn’t all fun & games; it’s hard to find bras that fit!)
- My stash has already outgrown all my newish stash storage stuff.
Why, oh why, did I ever let him learn the expression “Knit from your stash”???? Of course, as a non-knitter, he doesn’t “get” the idea that the size of my stash and the desire to purchase yarn have absolutely nothing to do with each other, but that’s OK. After all, I’m a kept woman, and when the one who makes the money says I shouldn’t spend any money, who am I to argue, eh? (Time to list some more of my stash for sale on Ravelry….) Besides, there’s always next year.

Sounds like it was a fun time, even if you didn’t get to buy yarn. One of these days, I’m going to splurge and hit one of the Stitches events.
sounds like a lot of fun. you know i didn’t buy anything i went last time either mainly because nothing i wanted was any cheaper than the local shops so i figured better to support them. i met vickie howell last year at TNNA & she was really normal & nice which is fun to find in a tv personality
Thank you so much for stopping by, and it sounds like you had fun anyway!
