Happy Halloween

PA310002 As you can see, Hubby got a new 'do for the occassion.  He said, "Now I just need the keys to a Camaro with a bale of hay in the trunk..."

Overheard

Overheard in the car on the way to a Halloween party Saturday evening:

When princesses secretly pick their nose, they don't put it on their dress; they find somewhere else to put it.

I am proud to say that I did NOT drive off the road when I heard this....

Landscaping

No new pictures to show right now.  Pipes.  Do NOT speak to me of pipes!  OK, so we knew we needed to replace the water main, and we planned to replace it Thursday night.  The landscape guys, however, BROKE the pipe during the day as they were digging the trench b/c it was so close to the surface.  Gaaah!  SO, we were w/o water for about 12 hours on Thursday from when they broke the pipe till Patrick & Hubby finished installing the new pipe around 11:45.  We "borrowed" water from the next-door neighbor so we could brush teeth, but the Things didn't get showers on Thursday night (not that they minded).

Friday afternoon, I noticed we had no water.  As the Things & I were leaving for a Halloween party, one of the guys told me they'd turned off the water b/c the pipe was leaking.  Well, YES, there was a small leak, but SOMEHOW, SOMEONE broke the coupling where the pipe connects to the water meter.  Once again, we were w/o water from the afternoon till about 9:00 at night.  As soon as Patrick got off work, he came right over to work on it.  He fixed the leak, but they ended up having to get the water company out to fix the coupling b/c it's a special part made just for them.

SO, for the last couple of days, we've had water, and things have been fine.  HOWEVER, Jenna figured out how to get out of the back yard where they haven't finished the French drain.  She also collapsed part of the side wall of the trench b/c she was looking for gophers (she's convinced the trench is one HUGE gopher tunnel).

Yesterday, Hubby and a kid from church, dug out one of the dirt sections of the driveway, flattened it, and put down a weed barrier.  Now, we need to get gravel & put it down.

Oh, Dear...

I met my friend Merry this morning for a lovely breakfast.  We had a great meal, a great talk, and suddenly I found myself at Creative Hands, admiring a gorgeous bias-knit Kureyon felted bag (GORGEOUS).  Next thing I knew, yarn was piling up next to my bag, and I walked out with this:

07 Oct - Enabling 07 Oct - Enabling Biberon 07 Oct - LL Shepherd Sock Purple Club Purty, ain't it?  Um, yeah.  So, I guess I can nix the idea of buying myself some cool black boots.  Yupp.  Yarn instead of boots (Hey, I put off buying new bras for a year b/c I was buying yarn instead!).  NOW, in my defense, they were having a HUGE sale with nearly everything in the store marked down, and the Biberon was only $1.99 per ball.  The Shepherd Sock was a pretty normal price - $9.99 (about the same as KPixie).  The Tahki Cotton Classic was marked down, too (it shall become a couple of string market bags).  The Snuggly Bubbly is for some baby hats Hubby & I discussed.  Sheesh!  When am I going to make all this stuff?!  I guess I can still refer to Merry as "The Yarn Fairy", since she's moved on from giving me yarn to enabling me and causing me to spend money on yarn....

As long as we're talking yarn, this is the AllHemp6 Hubby had me order so I could make him a "duck strap" for hunting.  It won't get made before this Saturday's trip, but it WILL get made...before the end of duck season.

Actual Knitting Content!

No, I haven't forgotten the "my knitting" part of my blog title.  I think my felted argyle bag is salvageable.  [Note to felters:  Argyle REALLY pulls in when it's felted!]  No pictures for ya'll b/c if I ever get it right, I'd like to write up the pattern and submit it or even sell it.

Finished this baby sweater today for Mary Ann & Jovanny's baby, due any day now.  Mary Ann actually went on maternity leave a week or two early, on doctor's orders, so I'm going to have to mail it to them or drop it off at their house instead of Hubby delivering it.  I really like how the mosaic pattern turned out; what do you think?

Tomorrow, I wind yarn and cast on for...Araxi's baby gift.  Just in case she happens to read this, I won't say what it is, but for you knitters, think miles and miles of mind-numbing garter stitch with the word "Moderne" in the title.  Got it?  Yupp, I thought you did.  Of course, I couldn't possibly do it as written, so it shall be done in fingering-weight superwash on size 6's (I'd do 5's, but I want the size 6's will give me, and I think in garter, the drape will be fine.  AND I have to finish it on time or my name will be m-u-d with a certain sibling of mine.  j/k, Auntie.).  Wish me luck!

Landscaping, Day Three

Today was all about trenches and the fence.  Somehow, though, when I approached the worker dudes with, "Pregunta - Tenemos agua?", all they said was "No.  Sorry." (as they wondered how much of what they've been saying outside my bedroom window I've been able to understand, he, he), which prompted me to snap my fingers in an "oh, darn" way and reply with "No puedo limpiar el piso.  Less work for me!"  NOW, if they had said, "No, because we broke a pipe when were digging b/c your lame water main was so stinkin' close to the surface", I might have had a slightly different response.  Feh.

At this very moment, Hubby and Pat (father to the oft-mentioned Amazing Megan) are outside, replacing the lame water main and probably more that I don't want to know about.  We've been without water since at least 1:00, maybe earlier.  The Things didn't mind skipping showers, but I had to go next door and "borrow" a big thermos full of water so we could brush our teeth, and so Jenna could have water.

[BTW, now that I'm on Flickr, all the pictures I insert into posts are from there. If you click on the picture, you can a) see it full-sized and b) see the description/comments on it.]
