Victims of Foreign Hairdos

Gee, I wonder which one of these women *just* arrived in Mexico and which ones have been on the boat for a while already?

Booking Through Thursday

  1. Okay, love him or loathe him, you’d have to live under a rock not to know that J.K. Rowling’s final Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, comes out on Saturday… Are you going to read it?
  2. If so, right away? Or just, you know, eventually, when you get around to it? Are you attending any of the midnight parties?
  3. If you’re not going to read it, why not?
  4. And, for the record… what do you think? Will Harry survive the series? What are you most looking forward to?

Yes, I’ll read it — I’ve read all the other books — but I’ll wait until I can either borrow it from someone or get it from the library.  Once it comes out in paperback, I’m sure there will be a boxed set offered, and then I’ll buy them all at once.  No, I’m not going to any of the midnight parties.  It would be fun, I’m sure, but no one else in my family is into it, so it would be a drag.  I’m really not sure if Harry will survive or not. It seems to me that there are a few different options.  If he survives, then everyone will want more books, which is not J.K. Rowling’s plan.  Harry can die, but Voldemort lives, but then evil wins, and that’s just not acceptable.  The other resolution would be if Harry defeats Voldemort but dies in the process.  That would be a bummer, though.  I’m really looking forward to seeing how it turns out, and I’m looking forward to seeing them finish the series of movies.  I hope they don’t poop out before they’ve done all seven.

Quake Early This Morning

Did ya’ll feel it?  I certainly didn’t; I slept right through it, and so did the rest of our household.

SAN FRANCISCO - An earthquake jolted San Francisco Bay area residents awake early Friday, breaking glass and rattling nerves, although there were no immediate reports of injuries.

The earthquake was recorded about 2 miles east of Oakland and had a preliminary magnitude of 4.2, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It could be felt for up to 10 seconds on both sides of the San Francisco Bay after striking shortly after 4:40 a.m.

More than 1,000 customers in the Oakland area lost power, a Pacific Gas & Electric Co. spokesman said. Crews were investigating the outages.

A dispatcher at the Oakland Police Department said police were getting calls about alarms going off. In Berkeley, an employee at a Safeway grocery store said two large windows broke but there were no injuries.

Overheard

On the boat:

Slip, rattle, bonk, CRASH!  F***!

Sean, are you OK?

Moan…

It turned out not to be as bad as we all thought at first, but it was pretty scary to rush over and see a big hole in the floor and Sean lying there, writhing in pain.  First, he thought he’d broken his back & cut his leg off.  Then, he thought he’d broken his tail bone.  Turns out, he’d just gotten a nasty cut on the bottom of his foot and had bruised his butt pretty badly.  (Uh, I took his word on the butt thing; I didn’t see it for myself, though one day I did nearly get to know waaaaaay more about Sean than I ever need to know.)

Yesterday:

Why does Dana only have one hip?

Well, I don’t know.  She was born that way.  That’s just the way God made her.

Maybe he was bored of making everybody with two hips, two hips, two hips, so he decided to make her with only one.

[Big grin] Maybe.  I don’t know.
