Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day, everyone!  As you’re enjoying your day, please say a prayer for all those for whom today is either bittersweet or just downright awful:

  • Those who are grieving their moms’ deaths
  • Those who have lost one or more of their children
  • Those who aren’t speaking to their mothers or who had abusive mothers and don’t enjoy a day celebrating them
  • Those who are estranged from their children
  • Those whose children are on active military duty somewhere far away
  • Those moms who are on active duty, far from their children
  • Those whose moms are on active duty far away
  • Those who hate Mother’s Day b/c it’s just a reminder that they’re infertile
  • Those who are pregnant but know that their babies have terminal medical problems
  • Those whose child(ren) are in the hospital, seriously ill or dying

Stash Reduction Plan

Well, the numbers are going down, especially with my cranking out all those dishcloths and the coasters this week.  Here are the current totals:

WEIGHT:  33.638 pounds

MILEAGE:  18.3826 miles

It also helped that I was able to palm off about a pound of the crummy acrylic on Thing Two’s teacher.  Woot!

I gotta figure out how to do some kind of yarn stash reduction ticker and keep it posted….

My Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day started on Thursday for me b/c the Things just couldn’t wait to give me the gifts and cards they made for me at school.  Thing One’s was a decoupaged portfolio with some “can-do coupons” inside.  Thing Two made me a pencil caddy with three ballpoint pens with fake flowers attached so that it looked like a vase of flowers.  Cute, classic kid gift!

Last night, Hubby and the Things decided that they couldn’t wait, so they had me open my big present.  I was hoping that it was either a new camera or a full-spectrum light for my “knitting station”.  What was it?….A lamp!  It will take some getting used to b/c it’s not as bright as my 50-100-150 lamp I had there, but the color is truer, it’s more direct, and the full-spectrum light is supposed to be good for people who suffer from SADD.

This morning started with Thing Two repeatedly coming and trying to get Hubby up so the three of them could make me breakfast in bed.  He put her off a couple of times, but finally chuckled and got up.  I got to put in my menu request last night, but I made it really simple b/c we’re going out for Italian food tonight, and I wanted to save up.

Hubby & Thing One leave for church in a few minutes.  He’s going to tape Thing One saying her “Why I Love My Mom” spiel for me.  Thing Two and I will have a relaxing morning.  Poppa, Nana & Auntie are due to arrive at 4:00 (well, we said 4:00, so they’ll probably be here at 3:30), then dinner’s at 5:00.

Should be a great day….

Knitting Update

I had a nice, long post written yesterday, then my computer ate it.  Let’s try again…

I finished the week’s worth of dishcloths for Tony & Juli.  They all turned out well, and those last two — the Japanese Cherry Blossom and “Bumbles” — were really quick knits.  I also made two for a friend who happened to mention that she had a handknit dishcloth once and loved it.

Currently in the process of felting a stash-buster project of eight felted coasters for someone who only has those cheap-o cork ones.  You know, those ones babies & toddlers think are cookies and take a bite out of?  So far, they’re turning out well, except that apparently one bit of purple yarn I used wasn’t actually wool, so it didn’t felt.  Oooooops.

Since there are only a few weeks of school left, I need to crank on the Things’ teachers’ gifts.
