I know, I know, “Long time, no blog.” I’ve been busy, plus it’s just not as much fun w/o pictures, eh what? So, here’s a pared-down update.
UGH - Thing One came home last week with the dreaded Your kid’s been exposed to head lice notice. The incubation period is two weeks, so I’m still checking the girls.
UGH- Thing Two came home this week with the dreaded Your kid’s been exposed to hand-foot-mouth disease notice. Fun.
UGH - The camera’s still not working. Last night, Hubby & I had this conversation:
You know, it just ocurred to me last night that I should have just told you to get me a new camera for Mother’s Day instead of giving you all those other ideas**.
What’s wrong with the camera?
It doesn’t take pictures.
Oh, yeah.
UGH - I got the dates mixed up, and yesterday Hubby went in early, got off early, and we all trucked up to UCSF for the annual Time of Remembrance (he’s been asked to read a poem there), only to find out that it’s NEXT week. D’oh!
Three-dot journalism a la Herb Caen:
Poppa & Auntie enjoyed their bday gifts. We had a nice dinner with them last Sunday, though Hubby & Jenna stayed @ home b/c Hubby was sick…Looks like (knock on wood) we may avoid a teachers’ strike in South City after all (please, please, please)…I started The Mother-in-Law Exercise Plan, so named b/c Grandma Ruthie thought of it: I have to “buy” my day’s knitting time by exercising before I sit down to knit. So far, so good; I’ve walked three days out of four, and Jenna’s a happy girl…Sarah & Eric loved the navy- and yellow-striped (ahem - Blue and Gold!) roll-neck raglan for Baby Jack. They immediately “got” that it was a Cal sweater…Got a last-minute call from Suzanne on Tuesday and got to hang out w/her and Quinn for a few hours. He’s so cute!…Had a great breakfast w/Hobbes & Julie on Monday. It’s cool to see Julie w/two little ones; she’s wanted kids all the maaaany years I’ve known her. Robin’s such a good boy’s mom that it’s odd to think of her having a girl, but that’s what she’s having. Bright pink Rowan 4-Ply Soft, here I come!…Got a cool surprise package in the mail last week from Kat, chock-full of CD’s from Six Degrees Records. So far, I’ve only listened to two. I really like Backspin (see my sidebar)…The Things just couldn’t wait and gave me their Mother’s Day gifts today. Very cool. I can’t wait to get pictures of them. Thing Two made me a pencil tin with pens that have fake flowers on top. Thing One made a decorated portfolio with “can-do coupons” inside — for things like setting the table w/o being told, taking the trash out w/o backtalk, etc. Also very cool…Speaking of Mother’s Day, Poppa, Nana & Auntie will come down on Sunday, and we’ll go to Buon Gusto for dinner. Yummy! They’re not coming till 4:00, so I’ll have SOME time to relax. I’ve accepted that, as long as Nana’s alive and living nearby, Mother’s Day we see her and do what she wants to do. Yeah, I’m a mom, too, but I’ll have plenty of Mother’s Days in the future when she’s not around where I’ll be the focus. For now, I’m grateful to have her. I’d love to be able to sleep in, but unless we have a Saturday evening church service some year, I’ll never get to really sleep in on Mother’s Day since it’s always on a Sunday…
I did a yarn stash inventory this weekend, courtesy of Ms. Trillian42’s Excel spreadsheet (in the right-hand sidebar, under “My Patterns And Stuff”). Now, it’s a bit inaccurate in my case b/c I have weights for everything (love that WW electronic food scale!), but there are many partial balls of mystery brands w/o ball bands where I don’t have yardage. This means the weight is accurate, but the yardage - nay, the mileage - errs on the low side.
