Comments

I didn’t want to do this, but I’ve turned on the comments moderation feature of the blog.  From now on, I’ll have to approve all comments before they appear on the blog, which will be a small hassle, but I’ve been getting more & more spam as comments, so this finally became necessary.  Sorry ’bout that!

Overheard

Mom, did you know there’s a state called New Hamster?

[snicker, snicker] No, sweetie; it’s called New Hampshire…

Knitting Teaser

OK, no pics tonight, so this is just a teaser, but here’s the update:

  • Scott’s scarf - FINISHED
  • Robin’s mittens - FINISHED (drying)
  • ON THE NEEDLES:  multi-directional scarf for Joyce (Araucania Nature Wool in blues, very pretty)
  • ON THE NEEDLES:  basic ribbed beanie #1 - rest of the ball of Kureyon from Dr. Anthony’s cap, a bit of leftover Lopi, then I ran out of yarn the right colors & weight
  • ON THE NEEDLES:  basic ribbed bean #2 - WOTA in “Grass” and navy Galway leftover from Hubby’s DNA scarf & Robin’s mittens

I decided that if I want to be prepared for the boutique next winter and any other sales opportunities, after every couple of projects, I need to crank out something salable, hence the basic ribbed caps.

I’ll post some pics of these projects tomorrow.  I suddenly have a pounding headache, though, so I’m calling it quits for the night.

Weekend Update

FRIDAY:  Both Things were SuperKids for this month.  Woot!  This is basically Student of the Month.  So, after school we were off to Mickey D’s so they could cash in their free french fry certificates.  That night, Grandma arrived.  Yippee!  The Things had a sleepover with her in the living room on the futon.  All three of them on a smaller-than-queen-sized bed.  At least they kept warm.

SATURDAY:  Becky’s birthday party.  I was surprised that Thing Two wanted to take out three hours of time she could have been with Grandma to go to a birthday party, but I guess when you’re five years old, a birthday party trumps Grandma.  I really thought she should hang out w/Grandma, but Grandma was a great sport about it.  Lots of time doing final prep for Hubby’s big birthday bash.  Somehow, even though they only had an hour or so out with Grandma, the girls ended up with a bunch of hair doo-dads, some new Polly Pocket stuff, a puffball pillow, card games, etc.  Laughing

THE PARTY:  Hubby’s party went really well.  As could be expected, some people couldn’t make it at the last minute, some made it at the last minute who had thought they couldn’t, and others never responded but hey, it’s all good b/c we got to bring home the leftover food, which we’re still eating!  (Terrific food, BTW.)  The picture board turned out well, and I was glad that I remembered at the last minute to add on pictures of a couple of Hubby’s good friends who have passed away, Marcus and Monte.  The Hubbypalooza game went over really well.  Oddly enough, the table with my family came in first place with 29 out of 40 questions right.  Tied for second were the table of relatives from Grandpa Paul’s side of the family and the table of relatives from Grandma Ruthie’s side of the family, each with 23 right answers.  (Muchas gracias a Nana for creating the cool prizes!)  Next came the table of co-workers with 21, and bringing up the rear the table of friends from church with 19 correct (no, we didn’t assign seating; people just naturally sat with those they knew best).  We had a couple of trick questions, and I think some people learned stuff about Hubby they hadn’t known before.  Our “special surprise” was a caricature artist that Hubby had arranged.  We’ll get our pictures scanned in, and I’ll post them.  We got one of the Things, one of Hubby & the Things together (the best one of Hubby), one of Hubby, his bros, and his uncles, and one of Hubby & me together.  It was pretty funny — he drew me wearing nothing but stilettos and a big ribbon, with Hubby about to “open the package”.  I was too busy playing hostess to take any pictures, but Adri took some.  She said a lot of them didn’t turn out, but I’m hoping at least a few did.  If so, I’ll post them when I get them.

SUNDAY:  We dropped Grandma off at the airport on our way to church.  By the time she was out of the car & had her bags, the Things had started crying.  Poor kids!  We’re glad they love their Grandma so much, though.  After church, helped Thing Two with her vest for 100’s Day today (the 100th day of school, a BIG deal for kindergarteners & first graders), then over to MarkyMark & Bobcats for the Stupor Bowl.  Whew!  What a great weekend!

Stupor Bowl

Low-key Stupor Bowl party @ MarkyMark & Bobcat’s yesterday.  Actually, I wouldn’t even really call it a party, just a few people sitting around and eating too much salty, greasy, crunchy food.  Jim & his kids came for a while, and the two neighbor kids ran around for a while, but most of the time, it was just the nine of us (counting the four-legged girls).

They’re in the same room, so in GuyWorld it counts as “hanging out together”, right?

The girls want IN!  (We had to lock both doors to outside b/c Jenna has figured out how to open the door to come in.)

Sammy can’t let MarkyMark play with Jenna alone.

Is it me, or does that look like some fair-weather fan changed that after the game was over????

Scott’s Scarf

Here is Hubby, rather grudgingly modeling Scott’s scarf between poker hands yesterday.  This thing is BIG, like Dr. Who big.  It’s wrapped around Hubby’s neck twice and is hanging down quite a ways behind him.  Good thing Scott’s a big guy (over 6′, compared to Hubby’s 5′7″).

What’s so great about this scarf?  IT’S DONE!  So…if I should ever say that I want to make a huge “randomly” striped multi-directional scarf, slap me, OK?  I mean it.  Slap me.  I should have shown you the picture of it BEFORE I wove in all the ends.  I had to bribe myself - If you spend an hour weaving in ends on Scott’s scarf, then you can knit on ___ for a while.  But, it’s done now, and Hubby delivered it to Scott this morning, so I’ve got that monkey off my back.

Last Week’s Ticker

Well, THAT  went the wrong direction.  (As of Friday morning.  I don’t expect much different this week.)
