Now, to weave in the ends.
Tricksy they are, those kindergarten teachers, I tell ya! I’m very careful not to sign up to help during “centers” on Fridays b/c they have circuit training instead. Today, I showed up to help with centers, and lo and behold, they had decided to treat today like Friday since there’s no school tomorrow.
Yupp, I got tricked into doing circuit training (i.e. P.E. class!!!) with the kindergarteners. The kids cycle through different activities, and I got to be in charge of having them walk and jog around the big blacktop. I wasn’t about to be mind-numbingly bored having to do this six times for all the different batches of kids, so I made it interesting by having them follow me in squiggly lines, running around in circles with our arms out like airplanes, doing hopscotch, walking on a weirdly-shaped line, etc. I had them all laughing a good portion of the time. They had fun, and I got really good work out; I was sweating a LOT by the end. Luckily, I was dressed appropriately b/c I had planned to go to Curves. You’d think getting such a good workout would be enough, but I still went to Curves b/c I’m doing the Holiday Trimming promotion, and I needed to get in my three times a week.
A much as I teased the teachers about tricking me into it, it was worth it. When I left, the kids waved good-bye and said they’d had fun. When I went to pick up Thing Two, different kids stopped me and said You ran with us today! or Thing Two, your mom’s silly. Ya gotta feel good about yourself when a bunch of kindergarteners like you and think you’re silly.
As if that weren’t enough running, when I was helping after school with distributing the stuff from the big fall fundraiser, Thing Two suddenly came up and said Thing One twisted her ankle! I said I gotta go to the mom I was helping and ran the whole way from the cafeteria to the kindergarten playground, where they’d been playing. As I ran, my mind was filled with visions of Thing One lying there screaming and crying, her ankle broken and swollen. Of course, I was guilting myself the whole way, telling myself I never should have let them play by themselves, unattended. When I got there, she was fine. Whew! More than enough running for one day.
