Post-Op Appointment
Had my two-week post-op appointment. I had planned to take Nana around the corner to Nine Rubies afterwards, but she wisely suggested that another day would be better since we have “Back to School Night” at the Things’ school tonight. Hmmm. Reluctantly, I agreed (but I told her to plan on going for their customer appreciation anniversary fete).
Anyhow, we were settled in with our magazines in the waiting room (me: New Yorker; Nana: a “skinny ladies” magazine) when the building fire alarm went off. Down four floors and outside. I’m tellin’ ya, if you live in San Mateo, I hope you never have to call 911 for the fire department. It took them over 10 minutes to get there! Half the building could have burnt down!
They eventually let us back in, but we had to climb the stairs. Poor Nana — bad back, neuropathy in her feet, and she had to climb the stairs. I told her she wasn’t allowed to have a heart attack. Good thing she’s sleeping over tonight and doesn’t have to drive home.
Appointment went well. I told the doc all the stuff I’ve been experiencing, and she said it sounded right for where she’d expect me to be. As much as I was thinking I’d be good to go by this weekend, she said I should expect to be in pain for another 10 days or so. Wonderful. (But I GOTTA be OK to be on my feet for six hours on Monday so I can go to the big bash and hear….well, you know…you didn’t really expect me to spill the beans, did you?)
Got some clarification:
- My uterus wasn’t stuck to my abdominal wall; it was PLASTERED to it.
- Pathology report said I had endometriosis in my uterus, which we hadn’t expected.
- Pathology report said I didn’t have any fibroids, though we’d thought there were some.
- My ovary wasn’t stuck to anything, but she put a scar barrier so that I wouldn’t get stuck to anything (with my history of scar tissue causing problems).
- The endometrios cyst on my ovary was 3cm — bigger than the ovary!
I go back in four weeks for another checkup. In about four months, we’ll do an ultrasound to keep an eyeball on the ovary to make sure that the endometriosis isn’t coming back. If it does, we have a couple of different options, but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.
