Yeah, yeah, yeah — long time, no post. I know. OK, let’s see if I can bring you up to date in a very short time.
July 31st: St. Peter’s Basilica, The Pieta, had a good cry; Basilica amazing, really impressive, even if you’re not Catholic; free concert in front of the Colosseum — Bryan Adams and Billy Joel, 45 or 50 feet from the stage, 3 hours, didn’t care if we brought cameras, so got photos & video, absolutely fabulous.
August 1st: Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel; Chapel amazing, amazing, didn’t get to see the Panoteca (did I get that right?) b/c we ran out of time, will have to do that next time if there is a next time; wandered around a bit on our last night, had a great dinner (risotto ai funghi porcini - wow), finally tried Limoncello; Hubby’s take on Limoncello: Melted cough drop with 151. A couple of sips later, he decided he liked it and finished mine so I wouldn’t have to (mmm hmmm, right). Had to buy an extra carry-on for all the yarn, etc. Bought a little ball of hemp yarn as my “Rome yarn”.
August 2nd: Bit of a mix-up (my fault) with the hotel about payment. They were very understanding, and we worked it out. Mercedes back to the airport. Rather confusing airport (why do they have signs that say the same thing but pointing opposite directions????). No, I didn’t sleep on the plane to Philly. In Philly, flight delayed, but not much. Rotten headache, but managed to get it under control. Made it to Fort Lauderdale. Big problem when we went to get our rental car: We had a reservation, but they tried to charge us nearly triple what we’d been quoted. Hubby handled it very well — he was firm w/o losing his temper, gave them a couple of chances to change their tune, then refused to do business with them (EZ Rental), so we ended up at Dollar. Things were SO excited to see us.
August 3rd: Sleep in, play in pool, lie around and be lazy, do 18 tons of laundry. Hubby, Grandpa & Things went to a Marlins game in the evening and watched the Marlins win. It was the shortest professional baseball game ever, I think. Game was at 7:00, and they were back before 10:00.
August 4th: Sleep in (but not quite as late), play in pool, lie around and be lazy. Things are all out of whack, staying up till midnight watching Food Network and Disney Channel. Hubby golfed. Found out that the house/Jenna-sitter had a fender-bender in the Pilot a couple of weeks ago. Says it’s only a scratch. Bummed, but glad she’s OK and that no one was hurt. Rain resulted in this in the back yard:
FYI, that’s not just the umbrella — the table is attached. Again, a problem that was my fault; I forgot to put the umbrella down when we came inside b/c we heard thunder (OK to swim in the rain, but not during a thunderstorm). Once the rain stopped, Hubby pulled it out and had me videotape him doing it.
Today: It’s currently 10:52, and I still haven’t been able to get the Things out of bed. Not sure how late they stayed up with Grandma. I take that back — Thing Two got up briefly b/c she wanted me to scratch her back, but then she went back to bed. Hubby & Grandpa are golfing. Later, I’ll have Hubby take me to Costco to pick up our 100s of pictures. I can’t go w/o him b/c my ATM card expired at the end of July. Ooops! I’m sure my new one is waiting in the mail at home, but that doesn’t do me any good.,
