Knitting Update

To go with the blue raglan (yes, that’s the raglan posed underneath them, drying after its bath):

The pattern is from Vogue Knitting’s Baby Knits Two.  Cute, yes?  The original calls for LP Bulky, but a) I can’t see putting wool & mohair on a baby’s feet (so hot and sweaty!), and b) I wanted them to match the sweater, so the yarn is Lion Cotton doubled on US 10 1/2’s (should have used 10’s, but I didn’t have size 10 dpn’s).

Mason-Dixon Knitting baby kimono for an upcoming baby shower (yes, folks, Erica is actually going to attend her first baby shower since Paul was born!).  Started knitting this on Friday post-biopsy, finished the knitting today.  Since her photo shoot, she’s had a bath and is now lounging on a towel on the dining room table awaiting her two seams, some weaving-in of ends, and some crocheted ties.

Here are the pattern tweaks/mods, some per Dani, some of my own:

  • Cast on 50 instead of 40 (since size “newborn” fits for about a minute!).
  • Knit the first section till it was 5″ tall, not 4″.
  • Knit the sleeves till they were 5″ at the wrist, not 4″.
  • I did the YO increase and continued the eyelets down the front.
  • I didn’t like the idea of using ribbons for ties (they fray and get ratty REALLY fast), so I’m going to use crocheted chains, one set on the inside and two on the outside.
