Another Baby Sweater

Vogue Knitting on the Go: Baby Knits Two (Vogue Knitting On The Go)So, last week I bought this book so that I could make a v-neck pullover baby vest with the leftover yarn from Sanjesh’s baby cardigan.  Well, as it turns out, I’m not making that.  Instead, I’m making a cotton roll-neck baby pullover.

Never one inclined to following a pattern slavishly to the letter, I read the pattern and decided that it was stupid that they had you make the front & back as separate pieces.  I mean, really now.  If you are someone like me, how on earth could you guarantee that they’d be exactly the same if you did it that way?  And who would want to knit that much stockinette flat at the gauge this wants?  Nonononono.  SO, I figured out how to do it in the round up to the armpits, then back & forth for the top parts.

The pattern calls for the whole thing to be one color with a cute little house done in different colors and attached to the front.  Nope.  Don’t have enough of the right kinds of colors for that.  So, I decided to do the body in blue and the sleeves in red, with the neck in blue and probably a square red pocket on the front.  I even had a brainstorm to knit from both ends of the yarn ball and do both sleeves at once so I could make sure they were the same.

Well, as you can see, I got part-way up the sleeves and realized I wasn’t going to have enough red to do the sleeves completely in red.  At that point, I started the striping.  After a few rows, I looked at my ball of dark blue and realized that I didn’t have enough to finishe it.  Feh.  You know what’s coming next, don’t you?  Oh, come on, ye know you do.

Yupp.  I’m going to frog the sleeves completely and do them in light blue instead with a light blue pocket on the front.

Oh, well.  I’ll update you later.  Maybe I’ll even have enough leftover to double the yarn and do the mocassins from the front of the book — too cute!  (Sorry, I can’t see using LP Bulky for that as specified.  Wouldn’t the poor kid’s feet sweat like crazy and itch???)

And, for the record…Zib and other denizens of Knittyland (you know who you are!), I’ve become a convert.  I strongly suspect that in the future, petroyarns will only be used for specific charity knitting projects where such yarns are required.  I believe that all other projects will be all or mostly natural fibers once I’ve used up current stash.  Knitting with this cotton was a dream!

Yet Another One…

Hunh?

Found this picture on the camera this morning.  Actually, I found about five variations on it.  Not sure what’s up with that.  Undecided  This was the best one.  Like many of us, Hubby has trouble posing, but candids of him turn out better.  I liked this one best b/c there’s just that hint of a smile starting to break….

Edited to add:  Turns out he had Thing Two take these pictures b/c he needs two passport-sized photos to get his International Driving Permit for La Bella Italia…
