Overnight Walk

Every 18 minutes, someone in America dies by suicide.  Every 19 minutes, someone else is left to figure out how to go on.

In my life, I have known four different people who have committed suicide.  As someone who suffers from depression, at different times over the years I have either attempted or considered suicide myself.

This summer, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is having their annual Out of the Darkness Overnight Walk to raise money to help prevent suicide and provide services for survivors.  Please consider sponsoring someone for this great cause.  The walkers each have to commit to raising at least $1,000, and if they don’t make their goal, they have to make up the balance out of their own pockets.

I won’t be walking b/c we’ll be in Italy, but my friends David and Faylene will be.  Feel free to sponsor one of them!

Mother’s Day

Thing Two is trying to fake me out about Mother’s Day.  Just for grins, I asked her yesterday what they had gotten me for Mother’s Day.  First, she said I’m not going to tell you; then it wouldn’t be a surprise!   Later, however, she changed her story and told me that they had gotten me a sparkly blue dress with a sparkly blue purse.  I was pretty worried for about an hour, then I decided that she must be trying to mess with me.  Later, Thing One and I had this conversation:

So, [Thing Two] tells me that you guys got me a sparkly blue dress and a sparkly blue purse for Mother’s Day…

No, we didn’t.

[Thing Two whispers in her ear]  Oh, yeah, that’s right.  We did.

Later, Thing Two elaborated more:

You know what else we got you?  Sparkly blue short high heels and…you won’t BELIEVE this — a sparkly blue tiara!

[big grin] Boy, [Thing Two], you sure are having fun making this up, aren’t you?

No, I’m not making it up.  It’s true!

OK, I’m amused that she’s trying to throw me off, but here’s the concerning thing:  she didn’t crack a smile once or in any other way show that she wasn’t telling the truth.  This is NOT good.  After Mother’s Day, we’ll have to have a little talk about lying….
