Catching Up (Picture-Heavy Post)
THURSDAY: Andrei came over for most of the day so that Bobcat could rest/get some work done. This kid’s got a future in comedy. I let him play with the camera, and he took about 35 pictures, plus some movies. Most of it was junk, but he took a funny self-portrait, a picture of my butt while I was sitting at the computer (NO, I won’t show you that!), and a couple of videos of Thing Two picking her nose. They played “tent”, and I felt like such a cool mom for thinking of it (the chairs were in the living room anyway b/c I was cleaning the dining room floor).

Found out that our friends Tim & Lauriel’s four-year-old daughter Shay had been in a swimming pool accident on Monday and nearly died. She’s in intensive care right now, and they’re waiting to find out how much brain damage she has, etc. Please pray for the three of them. This is such a horrible thing for them to be going through!
Thursday night was Open House at Thing One’s school. No pictures, sorry. The coolest part was reading her writing journal. Some of it was touching (when she wrote about her friend Alexis’ dad’s death, comparing it to Paul’s), some of it was funny (“schoolwork is tedious sometimes”), and some of it was embarrassing (“my mom was grouchy yesterday”). We made sure to take Thing Two to the kindergarten classrooms to get excited about next year (OK, she was excited already, but it was still good) and Thing One to the third grade classes for the same purpose.
FRIDAY: Hectic day. “Western Day” at school, with a big BBQ at lunchtime. I’m amazed that Thing One’s braids stayed in all day. Thing Two didn’t want to dress up this time. That’s OK; she will next year! Thing Two and I raced over to the school to do “library duty”, only to find out that no one was going to the library b/c it was being used for make-up STAR testing. Woulda been nice if someone had called me to tell me!

As soon as school was over, drove the Things over to Rick/Adri’s house to spend the weekend. They’ve been excited about this for weeks! They had a big Cinco de Mayo feast with Uncle, Auntie, Cousins, Big Mike, Diane, Baby Cousins, Uncle Jimmy, Velia, and Tammy. Gotta find a way to post the video of Thing One gleefully dancing around a sombrero in an imitation of The Mexican Hat Dance. I was a dope and forgot to wash & block Adri’s scarf till Friday morning, so it wasn’t ready when it was time to take the girls over. I also forgot to wrap Jesse’s birthday present (HOW did this kid get to be 15 years old and taller than his dad????), so I’ll have to take both of them over there tomorrow.
Potluck & quasi baby shower last night with the SAND gang. Mark & Gabi’s baby is due anytime within the next two weeks, so the rest of us had chipped in to get them a bunch of stuff. They were really excited about it. Suzanne announced that she’s pregnant again. Please say a prayer for her. Her son Avery was stillborn last year, and she miscarried a couple of months ago. Understandbly, she’s really nervous this time, and she’s wrestling a lot with all the ramifications of purposely becoming a single mom. David & Heather’s son Mansour is four months old now and really cute. You can see from the picture that Suzanne really enjoyed loving up on him. Wore my new wrap but forgot to get “modelling shots” for Zib. Next time…

TODAY: Boy, was it GREAT to sleep in this morning w/o kids to deal with! Love my girls to pieces, but sometimes you need a weekend of grown-up time, ya know? Not a lot of plans. Last night, Suzanne asked So, what are you guys going to do…besides the obvious? Well, besides the obvious, we spent a bunch of time cleaning out the garage and sorting stuff into garbage, Goodwill, take to the hazardous waste recycling, and give to the women & children’s shelter. Hubby’s off dropping off stuff now. Later, we may take Jenna on a hike or else go to the zoo by ourselves for once so we can see just what WE want to and sit for an hour in one spot if we want. Munching on leftovers from last night (ceviche, fajita meat, chocolate-cinnamon cake w/chocolate-cinnamon glaze). Maybe we’ll go to Zack’s 4th birthday party. Who knows?!
