Various & Sundry

Grrrrrr!  I did a nice, long post earlier, but when I went to post it, blog.com was undergoing maintenance, and I couldn’t post it.  Of course, it didn’t save a draft.  Now, to try to remember what I wrote….BTW, please be patient; blog.com has updated the software, and things will probably be wonky for a while.

ERRATUM:  To find the uber-cool new thing coming soon from the knitting goddesses at The Garter Belt, you’ll actually have to go in “through the back door”.  Watch www.knitty.com for the Spring issue.  When it comes out, after you’ve perused all the knitty wonderfulness, click on Covet Central, then on The Garter Belt, et voila!

Tadpoles.  There are tadpoles on my dining table.  Yupp.  Tadpoles.  We got selected to babysit the classroom tadpoles for Thing One’s class over Spring Break (which officially begins at 2:30 p.m. today).  I’m terrified.  They don’t do much — mostly they just hang out, looking like sperm.  I’m still terrified.  If they die on our watch, I know Thing One will believe it’s somehow my fault.  Plus, she’ll be crushed.  Yeah, I know — they’re only tadpoles — but the Things, girly girls that they are, have already named most of them.  No idea how they can tell which is which, but that’s not the point.  So far, we have:  Duffy, Daniel, Danny, Clara, Clarabelle, Jenna, Jessica, and Abby.  Thing Two had another funky name for one of them — something along the lines of Akeisha — but we can’t remember it.  Please, dear God, don’t let any of these stupid tadpoles die while they’re here.

FINISHED Adri’s birthday scarf at long last, with a tiny bit of yarn to spare (lace bookmarks?).  Pictures later.  I still need to give her a bath and figure out how to block her.

Must.  Cast.  On.  New.  Project.  Must.  Use.  Yarn.  From.  Zib.  In case you’ve forgotten, it’s this stuff.  I’m trying to decide if I want to make Lu’s Lacy Scarf or a Mini Clapotis or something else.

Thing Two is growing up.  Of course, I have mixed feelings about this.  Today, we dropped off the last piece of kindergarten registration paperwork (couldn’t get the physical done till it had been 365 days since the last one).  Now, we just wait for the stuff to come in the mail.  She’s getting bigger, so I pulled all the boxes of 5T/5 clothes down from the attic.  We sorted them out into three groups — school uniforms, clothes she’ll wear, and clothes she’d never be caught dead in (my picky dresser).  The clothes she’d never be caught dead in went into a box, along with the size 4 stuff she’d outgrown, for Carina & AnnaLisa.

The sun has gone.  The rain is due back any minute.  We didn’t have enough dry days for the Jenna poops in the backyard to dry out.  My backyard is truly frightening.

Today was “hat day” at Thing One’s school.  She’s wearing a hand-me-down hat from me.  It’s a crocheted roll-brim that matches my “Paul Scarf”.  I have a rather large head, so it’s always been a bit too tight on me, so I gave it to her about a week ago.  She loves it!  She doesn’t care that it’s a little too big for her.  Ya gotta love that kind of confidence.  You should have seen her last Sunday when she was wearing that AND the loser doll blanket (she folds it into a triangle and wears it as a shawl).  Oh, my, what a sight to behold.  Oh, to be seven again….

Jenna hates her new dog bed.   For her birthday, we got her new insides for her bed b/c the original feather one had lost so many feathers and wasn’t squishy.  I was really excited that the guy at the Orvis store let me buy just the insides w/o a cover.  It was only $30!  Woo hoo!  Nope.  NOT woo hoo.  It’s lame.  In about a day and a half, it was at least as flat as the feather one.  Feh.  Luckily, it opens, and I remembered that I had a pound (minus a touch) of stuffing up in the attic from when I made Baby Hannah’s stupid-looking doll (supposed to be a baby in a bunting, looked more like a clown).  Sooo, as long as I had to wash it all today b/c she PUKED this morning, Thing Two & I added the bag of stuffing to it.  Jenna’s happy now.  We’ll see how long it lasts.  Luckily, stuffing’s cheap, so I can always go buy another pound of the stuff at Joann’s or Beverly’s.

The only bummer about Spring Break is that Thing Two won’t be on break, so there really won’t be a single day that we get to lie around in bed and have a jammie day, not even on the weekends.  Fooey!

Cake of Dreams…

Forget chocolate, man.  For my next birthday, I want a cake like THIS (from Yarn Harlot’s blog):

Meganlkyc

Oh, but my preferred flavor would be one of these:

Shepherd Worsted - BittersweetShepherd Worsted - FlamesShepherd Worsted - Purple IrisShepherd Worsted - TahoeBullfrogs & Butterflies - Iris GardenBullfrogs & Butterflies - Mixed BerriesBullfrogs & Butterflies - Tuscany

ETA:  OK, I don’t know why I can’t get the pictures to come up.  Anyhow, they’re all Lorna’s Laces, which I’ve been dying to get my hands on, but I’m back on the yarn diet (that’s the ONLY diet I appear to be on lately!!!!), so no buying for a while for me.
