Countdown

For those who pay attention to such things:

6 days till Thing Two’s birthday!  She’s going to be 5 years old.  I just can’t believe this.  Hello Kitty party at the bowling alley next Saturday.  Should be fun, especially since she’s making more of her own friends now and has quite a variety of kids coming from family, church, preschool, Thing One’s school.

Yadda, Yadda, Yadda

KNITTING:  Not a lot to report, but I did want to check in.  Poor Olympia has been languishing b/c a) I’ve been working on other stuff, and b) I’m less inspired now that I see the stuff that I should have done differently in the design.  Sigh.  Wendy, Zib, Elizabeth, Harlot, et al, how do ya’ll DO it?  What do you do when you’ve committed yourself to this big thing, and then partway through, you realize you’re not thrilled, but you’ve come too far to go back to the drawing board?  Sigh. I shoulda done like a real athlete and had a coach to point out those weaknesses.  Sigh.  Sigh.

Oh, and the whole cryptic “March.  Turquoise.”  thing was about Adri’s bday present (Sorry, Jeannette, my other turquoise-lovin’ March birthday pal; you’re getting something else!).  I would have had it completed in time for the party today, but I forgot to factor in the five hours I had volunteered to help out with the book fair at Thing One’s school.  Luckily, Adri’s really easy-going about that stuff.  I’ll have WIP pictures to post tomorrow, if the lighting is cooperative.  That, my friends, is why I haven’t had any WIP pictures lately; I couldn’t “out” her present.

PARTY:  Adri & Tina’s bday party today was fun, as always.  How can you go wrong with a metric buttload of food (uh, that’s a technical term), family, and massages at $30 for 30 minutes?  Even Hubby got a massage this time!  He wasn’t that into it, though, so next time I’ll just get a 60-minute massage instead of each of us getting 30 minutes.  Ate like a pig.  Had my first martooni, too.  I know, 41 years old and my first martooni.  Hey, I’ve lived a sheltered life.  Tina & Adri were mixing up all these exotic martoonis.  I had a pomegranite (sp?  looks wrong) one.  Hubby had a lemon drop one that I tasted, and it was terrific, too.  I took a sip of an apple one that I didn’t care for.  Just as well.  I’m such a lightweight when it comes to drinking (I drink for the taste and end up getting kicked in the head by the alcohol) that I really don’t need a bunch more drinks I like.  Plus, I only allowed myself one drink b/c alcohol & happy pills are not a good mix, ya know?  When I wasn’t eating or getting massaged, I parked myself on the couch and worked on Thing Two’s mindless purple ribbed birthday scarf.  (Not exactly sure why it’s rolling if it’s ribbed, but honestly, the kid’s turning 5 — she won’t care.)

LIFE:  Today was the first day of the new babysitting co-op.  Should be cool.  MarkyMark & Bobcat (Andrei), Hubby & moi (Thing One, Thing Two), Marco & Mia (Joey & Jaeda).  Each week, one couple has all the kids over to their house from 5:00 - 10:00 on Saturday so the other two couples can go out on a date.  I think the fourth week, we have a bye.  This week, MarkyMark & Bobcat hosted, but they had to do it at our house b/c their place is still mid-remodel.  Joey & Jaeda couldn’t come, but Andrei gave Jenna a workout, and our friend Jim came over to hang out, too.  It shouldn’t be too overwhelming when it’s our turn to babysit b/c it’s only five kids total, and they’re all basically the same ages, so they get along really well.  When the weather’s good, we can take them down to the park or clean up the poops in the back yard and let them play out there.

WEATHER:  In case you’ve heard about our weird weather — yes, we’ve had rain, hail, and even some snow the last couple of days.  The snow wasn’t right here where we are, but I did see it on TV.  Does that count?  Last night when we were at a pasta dinner fundraiser at school, it started thundering, lightning, and hailing, and the kids were totally freaking out.  On some of them, it was funny, but I felt bad for some of the parents.  A couple of kids were crying, and one special needs kid was really, really upset by it and panicking.  Poor guy.  I keeping doing like my Nana and telling the girls that the thunder is just the angels bowling, but they ain’t buyin’ it.  Oh, well.

LIFE:  So silly.  Hubby and I wanted to check email, the blogs, etc. after we got the kids to bed, so we each grabbed our laptop and sat on the bed.  There we were, sitting six inches from each other, MS Messengering to each other just to be crazy.  Is that weird or what?

WEIRD:  Weird?  You want weird?  OK, here.  All I can say is “ONLY Zib would think of this…”
