Weekend Update (YES, There IS Knitting Content)

[NOTE:  Additional pictures for all events in the "Random Pictures" album.]

06 Feb Alvin's Bday Party 007 06 Feb Alvin's Bday Party 005 First up = Alvin’s 30th birthday party Friday night.  Yeah, Alvin!  Yeah, hubby for doing great at Texas Hold ‘em!  Boo for Erica being in really bad back pain!  Boo for Erica pigging out!

06 Feb Build-a-Bear Party 00106 Feb Build-a-Bear Party 002  Saturday = Georgia & Becky’s birthday party at the Build-a-Bear Workshop.  Each kid came home with her very own bear.  Pretty cool.  After the party, we went back and let the Things each get $10 worth of clothes for their nekkid bears.  It’s cool that Georgia and Becky are sisters who like each other enough to have their birthday parties together (their birthdays are less than a week apart).  It’s fun for us b/c they’re each just a few months older than the Things, so they are (or will be) in the same grade in school.

We could have done the “drop-off” thing, but we stuck around during the party to see what was going on and to make sure the Things stayed roped in and were clear on the concept that they couldn’t get any “extras” during the party, etc.  Hubby, swell guy that he is, came to the party, even though he knew the birthday dad wouldn’t be anywhere near the place.

Hubby took a break from the party for a while and went and got a free massage a few doors down in the mall.  Then, he went and bought this:06 Feb Scooba-Dooby-Doo-Ba 003

But, Erica, you guys already have a brand-new Roomba, and a broken one for spare parts.  Why did hubby buy yet another new Roomba?

Ah, but it’s NOT a Roomba.

It’s not?  But it looks almost like a Roomba.  I mean, it has fewer buttons on it and stuff, and it’s blue, but it’s almost the same.  What is it?

Ah, this is a Scooba.

What’s a Scooba?

A Scooba is like a Roomba on steroids.  The Roomba vacuums your floors.  The Scooba CLEANS your floors.  Yes, it mops and dries them.

Whoa….

Yupp.

Hubby even put the camera in video mode and put it on top of the Scooba while it cruised around the laundry room.  It was really cool.  As soon as he posts it on the video site, I’ll letcha know.

Step Three = Up to Poppa & Nana’s house to stay Saturday night, then hang out on Sunday after church for the Stupor Bowl (a.k.a. hubby’s birthday celebration).  Auntie, Big Mike, Diane, M&M, and Rick, Adri, and da boyz were all there, too.  The closest hubby ever lets me get to giving him a birthday party is doing cake during half-time at the Stupor Bowl.   This year, he wanted the fab Sunset Magazine Cheescake for 20, so that’s what we had.  Uh, in addition to chips, salsa, guac, artichoke dip, fruit, taquitos, samosas, chicken wings, ribs, chili, lasagna, salad, and assorted beverages.  In WWspeak, I was at a 6 on the way home.  Bleh!

KNITTING CONTENT STARTS HERE

Training for the Knitting Olympics began yesterday.  I pulled out my two hanks of KnitPicks Shadow to wind into balls.  I got 4/5 of the way through the first one, and it got tangled.  I worked on it off and on yesterday and today, and had worse yarn barf by the time I gave up than I did before, and I was fuzzing up the nice lace-weight stuff, so I broke the yarn!  Waaaaa!

I poured myself a glass of Cabernet and started swatching the different stitches and talking with my SIL’s.

OK, class.  Please find the errors in the above sentence.  Yes, yes, the first error was that I attempted to drink wine and swatch LACE at the same time.  What was the second mistake?  Yes, the second mistake was that I tried to drink, swatch lace and talk to people all at the same time.  I ended up doing row 1 of Picot Lace and row 2 Rabbit’s Foot Lace (or whatever it’s called), etc.  Feh.  Shortly after I realized this mistake, today’s training session was terminated.

Silly Erica!  You brought the lace stuff to work on Saturday night while hubby’s birthday cheesecake was in the oven!  Your Stupor Bowl knitting was supposed to be the mini BHB for Nicole!  Oy.  Must have been all the awesome La Tapatia chips and Abraham’s special salsa that fuzzied my thinking. Oh, well.  I’ll live to swatch another day.  (And if I don’t, it won’t matter, will it?)
