Cell phone rings.
Hubby: Hey, babe.
Oh, no! What’s wrong? Hubby NEVER calls during the day. Something must be wrong. Maybe he has to work late tonight, and I’ll have to get a sitter for Thing Two while I take Thing One to her rehearsal tonight. Oh, I wonder what’s wrong. Oh, no!
Me: Hey, babe. What’s up?
Hubby: Remember how I’ve been saying I wanted to get an iPod shuffle? [NOTE: This is b/c there have already been numerous times when we've both wanted the iPod. It would be crazy to get another Nano, though -- not that we paid for the one we have.] Well, I got one.
Stay calm. Don’t get on his case. He’s the one who makes the money, he has a right to spend it. Who am I to get on his case about spending money after I just spent $29 on a sushi dinner just for me on Tuesday? After aaaaallllllll the money I spend? Stay calm. Don’t get on his case.
Me: Really? Where’d you get it?
Hubby: I participated in an extra thing at work [explains extra thing], and an iPod shuffle was the thank-you gift.
Big sigh of relief, followed by amazement at how he manages to score this kind of stuff.
Me: That’s great! So, who gets the nano, and who gets the shuffle?
Hubby: I don’t know. It doesn’t matter.
SILK GARDEN: I believe that the verdict is in. Wendy suggested doing a mini Clapotis with it. She did her full-sized one in Silk Garden, and it’s gorgeous (like anything she makes isn’t????).
THING ONE: So, the big ballet performance is tomorrow night. She’s excited and nervous. They had the tech rehearsal last night, and she did very well, all the way around — behaved well and was patient while she was waiting to get to go up onstage (loooong wait), and did her dance just right. Bigger news is that the first report card of the year came home on Wednesday, and we were SO excited. She got “meets grade level standard” (the highest grade they have at her age; they don’t have an “exceeds standard” one) in EVERYTHING. Everything. Even MATH. Her teacher told me today that there were aspects of math where some of the kids got the lowest grade possible, but she was one of the few who got the high grade in those areas. I was pretty proud. Gotta have her keep doing her 2nd grade math computer game, though, so she doesn’t fall behind as it gets harder.
BIG NEWS: Found out yesterday that my friend Bob, whom I’ve known ALL my life (he was born three weeks before me, and his was the first diaper my mom ever changed) is getting married in April. We’ve heard a tiny bit about his girlfriend (OK, mostly just that she’s really young), but we finally get to meet her on the second. Woo hoo! This is really significant b/c Bob was engaged once before to someone else and ended up not getting married. I really hope Ginger’s “the one”. Can’t wait to meet her. Poor girl — she’s going to get totally scrutinized at the “Group” gathering. Oh, well. Others have survived it; I’m sure she will, too.
PATHETICNESS: Today was an improvement. I actually got out of bed at 6:55. It’s a start…
KNITTING: The Christmas knitting has begun again. I’m making some stuff that a couple of people have requested. Also, a mom from school has asked to buy one of my bags that didn’t sell at the boutique. Jeannette has also asked if I can help her with her Christmas knitting by churning out a couple of bags for her, too. Cool!
