A - Z Meme

I hereby tag anyone and everyone who may feel inclined to do this one.  Here goes:

  • A = age = 41 (and proud of it!)
  • B = booze = only once in a while, and not much at that; faves = dark beer (think Guiness), Merlot, or margaritas
  • C = career = Family Manager (a.k.a. wife & mom)
  • D = dad’s name = Walt (NO, “Poppa” is not his real name)
  • E = essential items to bring to a party = usually a homemade cake
  • F = favorite song at the moment = three-way tie between “Buy a Dog” (Luce), “She Will Be Loved” (Maroon 5), and “October” (U2, which fits my melancholy mood lately)
  • G = goof-off thing to do = lie in bed and read a frivolous book (Janet Evanovich, etc.)
  • H = hometown = San Francisco (I was born at Children’s Hospital, which no longer exists)
  • I = instrument you play = the stereo
  • J = jam or jelly you like = strawberry or raspberry — HAS TO be red!
  • K = kids = as you know if you’ve EVER read this blog before, 3:  Thing One, Thing Two, and my angel Paul
  • L = living arrangement = in a house w/hubby, Thing One, Thing Two, and The Beast
  • M = mom’s name = Ella (giving me extra reason to want to knit an Ella)
  • N = names of best friends = Bobcat, MEY, Treece (in no particular order)
  • O = overnight hospital stays = Oh, my!  Well, there was when I was in first grade and had pneumonia.  Then, there was when I had Thing One.  Then, there was when I had Thing Two.  Then, there was when I got pre-eclampsia at 29+ weeks and was in until after I had Paul.  Then, there was when I got RE-admitted five weeks later with an infection and had to stay for three days.  Nothing since then, knock on wood.
  • P = phobias = heights, the dark, being attacked, house being broken into, etc., etc.
  • Q = quote you like = So hard to choose just one!  OK, I’ll choose a political one this time.  I lent my copy of How to Talk to Liberal (if You Must) to Grandpa Gil, so I’ll have to do a paraphrase (my apologies, Ann):  “The easiest way to turn a liberal into a conservative is to have him move out of his parents’ house, get a job, and start paying taxes.”
  • R = relationship that lasted the longest = I guess my friend Cindy; I’ve known her literally all my life
  • S = siblings = my brother Walter, Jr. who was stillborn in 1969 or so, my sister (known here as “Auntie”), born in 1971
  • T = Texas - ever been = YES!  I lived there from mid-1968 to mid-1973!  My sibs were both born there.
  • U = unique trait = I’m a VERY loyal friend.
  • V = vegetable you love = asparagus
  • W = worst trait = Only ONE?  I’m a control freak, and I can be rather a shrew at times.
  • X = x-rays you’ve had = dental ones, chest, sinuses, foot, ankle
  • Y = yummy food you make = I’m a really good baker.
  • Z = Zodiac sign = Sagittarius

Pathetic

I’m officially pathetic.  I’ve had SUCH a hard time getting up in the morning lately (hubby hasn’t been much better).  The alarm goes off at 5:10 so I can go work out.  I turn it off and go right back to sleep, often till 6:45 or even 7:15 when the Things get up!  I will frequently throw on workout clothes and drive Thing One to school w/o a shower.

Today, I reached a new low.  I actually drove her to school in my nightgown and robe.  Yupp.  The Things couldn’t believe it, but I rationalized it by saying that no one would see me b/c I wasn’t going to get out of the car.  Pathetic.  Granted, I woke up with a headache that’s still with me, despite the Excedrin Migraine and pumping in the caffeine, but still.  Pathetic.

Tomorrow, I MUST be properly dressed before school b/c it’s the “winter holidays” (PC term for Christms) themed SuperKids day.  The kids are all going to be so cute that I’m going to have to take pictures.

Off to take a shower….

Silk Garden

05 Nov E Bday Yarn 002 Remember this Silk Garden I bought with my birthday money?  I’m trying to figure out what to make with it for ME.  Any suggestions?  So far, the best one is a broken rib scarf.  That sounds good to me b/c the ribs would make it nice and squishy (that’s a technical term, folks).  Any other suggestions?  These three skeins are all I have, so the pattern can’t require any more than that.
