Here are various necessary updates:

Pot luck with “The SAND Gang” on Sunday was great.  It’s so good to see Heather pregnant and healthy.  She’s going to be induced on the 27th.  We surpised them with a group baby gift, and they both cried.  There aren’t too many people I’d go to the baby department for to buy baby boy stuff, but David, Heather and Baby Manny are high up on that short list.  We found out that night that Gabriele is pregnant, too — 15 weeks.  Yippee!  We all guessed before she told us.  It was great to see their fancy remodeled SF flat.  There are definite advantages to having an architect in the family!  Suzanne had just come from an art & writing workshop and was relaxed and happy, though very concerned about her mom, who has a brain tumor.  So, news from everyone that night.

Poppa spent Friday night in the hospital.  He was having weird light-headedness, lack of balance and nausea that really scared him.  His blood pressure was really high — moreso than normal — and his pulse was really low.  They kept him overnight, ran tests, etc., then let him go, saying it was an inner ear thing, not his heart.  The cardiologist told him to make a follow-up appointment, but when he called, they wouldn’t see him till January!  Yesterday, he had oral surgery.  They’re fooling around with his meds, so Nana’s been staying home for a few days to keep an eye on him till things level out.

Thing One is totally excited about her role as a winkie (hubby keeps saying “twinkie” just to bug her) in The Nutcracker this Saturday.

I managed to pull off the PTA teachers’ holiday luncheon today.  It didn’t seem like enough food to me, though.  I’ll get the review when I go back to pick up Thing One later.  The teachers seemed to like it, though.
