Thanksgiving / Birthday
I had considered taking the beast for a walk this morning, but I decided just to hang out in bed. After all, it was my birthday, doggone it!
Remember how hubby took the Things out shopping last night? Well, clearly they were DETERMINED to get me perfume b/c when they came home the Things STANK so badly I couldn’t stand to be in the same room with them! They each tried on about twenty different perfumes. They smelled. They stank. They reeked. Steam was rising from them. Even the towels they dried with after their showers stank.
You guessed it. They got me perfume. It was a sampler of Elizabeth Taylor scents. I think it was the only one they could all three agree on. I really haven’t worn perfume in at least five years, so it’s kind of nice to have something like that. Hubby also got me a charm for my Italian charm bracelet — lips.
I relived my youth and lolled in bed reading till 11:00, then finally got up, showered, and dressed. We had the car loaded and were driving off to Rick & Adri’s by 12:05. On the way, we stopped at the cemetery to visit Paul (I took him one stem of my birthday lilies; I knew T wouldn’t mind). Adri had the place done up great. They had moved furniture around had one really long table so everyone could sit together for dinner, which was cool.
In attendance, we had:
- Rick, Adri, Jesse & Steven
- Mike, Diane, Matthew & Michael
- Hubby, me, Thing One & Thing Two
- Grandma Ruthie
- Poppa, Nana & Auntie
- Uncle Barney & Aunt Becky
- Uncle John & Aunt Linda
- Frankie & Tina & Tina’s little sister Sierra
There was SO much food, but I managed to stick to my plan and was totally content with what I ate. I even managed to resist the “food pushers” who tried to guilt me into having chocolate cake: “But it was bought especially for YOU, for your birthday”. I was polite, but I didn’t eat a bite of it. Honestly, I just really wasn’t interested in it. I can have chocolate cake any time. I only get to have Nana’s special pecan pie at Thanksgiving — maybe. I wasn’t interested in birthday cake; I was psyched up for pecan pie, and I was very happy with my piece of it. Just when the stress was getting to me, hubby & I took the beast for a walk around the neighborhood. It was perfect, kept me from blowing or saying something stupid.
This was the FIRST time Rick has had Thanksgiving off since he started doing shift work, so this was the first time we’ve had Thankgiving with hubby’s family. It was great. I wish I could have spent more time talking with the people I don’t get to see very often — John & Linda, Barney & Becky — but what can you do?
Gave Nana her birthday gifts. Should be interesting to see her reaction to the one I made. I can’t wait to post a picture of it FINALLY. She wanted to wait to open it, so I’ll have to wait.
Gave Frankie & Tina an enagement gift. They seemed to like it. It’s so weird to think of getting married so young, but they’ve been together for nearly ten years.
Got some really terrific birthday presents:
- When Auntie was in NY, she got me a “Pashmina” from a street vendor (probably fake, but who cares?). It was perfect b/c this morning I had been wanting to wear a shawl, but realizing I didn’t have a black one other than the really sheer one from T’s wedding. She also gave me a couple of CD’s from my wish list — a Cars best-of, and the first U2 album, October.
- Adri (well, Rick & Adri, but I have no illusions; I know the wives in this family do the women’s bday gifts) got me some cool bamboo needles and a copy of Knit One, Felt Too.
- Diane (Mike & Diane) gave me a really pretty Cookie Lee silver-colored cross pendant with crystals on it on a chain. It fits me (but just barely), and it’s really pretty. If I decide I need an extender for it, I can probably get one from Michelle, since it’s Cookie Lee.
- Nana & Poppa gave me a cool Christmas plate (I collect the Waechtersbach Christmas tree stuff) and shopping money (some has already gone to knitting books).
- Grandma Ruthie had done all that weeding & planting, but she also gave me some birthday money with a card that had instructions to “have a great yarn-buying day.” Who am I to disobey my MIL? So, within an hour or so of getting home, I had placed my first KnitPicks order. Woo hoo! The rest went toward knitting books.
As if all THAT weren’t enough spoiling, Bobcat & I are going to go get pedicures tomorrow before hubby & MarkyMark go golfing. Should be fun.
AND I got a nice email from Dani, an email from Arlene, and a call from Chiquitita. All in all, a great birthday.

What a great birthday! Wishing you the best.
Happy belated birthday. I hope your headache got better.
So, did you end up getting perfume?
