On the Needles

05 Oct Gold Wool Ease IP Feel like I’m making some progress on this thing.  Look how long it’s getting!  Next post about it, I’ll have to loop it to get it all in one picture.

05 Oct Grand Eyelet Lace IP  Cast on for this last night with the gals at Starbucks.  YARN:  Moda Dea Floral (black) from The Yarn Fairy.  PATTERN:  Grand Eyelet Lace stitch pattern from Barbara Walker’s book.  It’s going really fast, despite the fact that I wasn’t paying attention last night and had to frog it and start all over again.

Tuesday Knit Night

Well, tonight was the third meeting of the SSF/San Bruno Knits group at the Bayhill Starbucks.  The group is growing, which is encouraging and a lot of fun.  I’m sure we got some goofy looks as we moved furniture around, etc., but hey — we were seven paying customers (nine if you count Jeannette’s hubby and son, who were there just at the beginning).

Our little group started b/c Jeannette was tired of having to pay $65 to take a knitting class just to get to sit around and knit and gab.  She brought Jean and Katie, two co-workers who knit and Rita who, the first week was just considering learning.  The second week, she had needles and yarn in hand!  Last week, we got treated to a glimpse or two of Katie’s intricate, trophy-winning tattoos (imagine having to drop your drawers on stage in front of hundreds of people to show off the pictures on your butt!).

As it turns out, Jeannette’s son goes to Thing One’s school (a year behind her), and she knew me from the WW Double Chocolate Muffins I made for the Pumpkin Patch last year   (“YOU’RE the one!”).  South City is such a small world!

This week, we were joined by Jennifer, who was hopefully not scared off by us old fogeys, Helga, who was knitting a papoose for the daughter she’s expecting in a few months (Good thing I forgot to wear my picture of Paul today!  I think she probably would have been freaked out by that story!), and Ada, who was knitting some beautiful, brightly striped socks on two circulars (Can you say “Cat Bordhi”?) with self-striping Regia sock yarn.  Next week, Donna might come, and I may try to rope in Gretchen.

I tell ya, I gotta make myself a shirt or a button that says “Yarn Magnet”.  Jeannette sent me home with a big bag full of yarn!  I’ll post pictures tomorrow (ohhhhhhhhh, Daniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!); I tried taking them in the kitchen in the “good” light, but yarn pictures at night just don’t turn out.  In return, Jeannette has specified two balls of yarn she’d like me to use to make a cape for her Chihuahua.  Yupp.  You read that right — a cape for a Chihuahua (Hey, Adri, should I make one for Scooby?  j/k).  Hey, for all this yarn — NO problem!  You should see this stuff — some of it would make gorgeous lacy scarves.  I’m drooling, I’m telling you.

Well, off to bed.  I *must* drag my rear out of bed to go work out early in the morning if I’m going to meet my goal of going to Curves a minimum of three times every week….

Let The Parties Begin!

Thing Two’s craft class won’t be meeting for a couple of weeks, so they had their Halloween party today.  It’s cute — they parade around the atrium of the Municipal Building, then troop on down to the Park & Rec Department office to “trick or treat”, then back to class for treats.  Here are the best of the pictures.

Too bad Miss Tinkerbell hates to have her picture taken, eh?  Actually, she was doing really well considering she took a tumble last night and has an open wound that has to get Neosporin on it three or four times a day (painful!).

Hyperventilating Again

OK, I can’t believe it. Check out THIS PLACE.

Just to put it in perspective for you:

A 4-ounce skein of Lamb’s Pride worsted at my LYS is about $8.  It takes 4 of them to make a pound, so $32 for a pound.  These guys have a one-pound cone for $22.80.  Yes, there’s shipping, but it’s still a significant discount.

Oooooohhhhh, this is so tempting.  So many fab colors.  They even have a 5-lb cone of undyed, but there is no way in anything I can justify the expense, even if it’s a terrific deal.

Hey, Adri — look at the Aztec Turquoise!
