Wave of Light

Remember, the Wave of Light to honor babies who died before their first birthday is tonight at 7:00 p.m., your local time.

Our friend Suzanne from SAND has one of these pendants with Avery’s footprint on it.  It’s SO cool.  She called the people and asked, and they can make one from the purple footprint/handprint from the hospital.  So, if you’re looking for something very special and even more personal than the stuff from La Belle Dame, this is for you.  (Note:  They’re not cheap!)

Knitting ADD - Oh look! Some yarn!

05 Oct Gold Wool-Ease Scarf IP 001  It’s very slow going, but I’m making some progress on the gold Wool-Ease double lace rib scarf.

Here’s the detail; I really like the stitch pattern. 05 Oct Gold Wool-Ease Scarf IP 003

05 Oct White on White Scarf IP 001 Believe it or not, I started this stash-buster scarf about five times.  I knew the feel I wanted for it, but I couldn’t get the gauge the way I wanted it or get the look I wanted.  I finally settled on a simple 2×1 rib pattern.  It’s three strands of yarn together - each a slightly different shade of off-white.  Two are mystery acrylic from Merry, one is “vintage” thick & thin Dutch acrylic from Nana from the 1970’s.

05 Oct Mexican Stripes Scarf IP OK, when I bought this yarn, I liked the idea of it.  Now, I’m kind of embarrassed by it, but I have to use it up.  I’m half-way through the yarn.  It’s SO bright!  Someone out there will like it, I’m sure…..

I’m 75% sure what I’m going to do with the Filatura di Crosa from my FKAL SP.  I think I’m going to make this scarf.  I think it would show off the colors well.  Then again, maybe I’ll actually wait and hang onto it till I have more yarn in some of the complementary colors so I can make something bigger.  I just can’t decide.  Whatever I do, I have to finish these three other scarves first.  I realized that I don’t have much inventory for the holiday boutique, and I’m feeling the pressure.

Speaking of yarn…I appear to have turned into a yarn magnet.  Merry says she has more yarn to give me, including a ball of roving the size of a soccer ball (anybody want to spin it for me after I dye it?).  Then, on Tuesday, Jeannette says she has some odd partial balls she’ll give me to make Barbie clothes for the boutique as long as I also make her Chihuahua a cape (poor dog!).  THEN, on Thursday, Sherri said she had a box full of turquoise silk she wanted to give me.  She bought it a long time ago and is never going to make what she’d planned with it, so she wants to give it to me.  Silk, I tell you!  (Hey, Adri — it’s turquoise!  Wanna see it after I get it?)

BTW, how do you like my new medium-sized knitting bag?  My friend Angela, a.k.a. our very favorite babysitter, gave it to me a few weeks ago.  I just finally got around to putting the last two pictures in yesterday.  I like that I can have pictures of the whole family in there.  It’s bigger than my little one my FKAL SP gave me, but smaller than the giant Helga that I could carry Thing One in.
