Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween, ya'll!  Hopefully, I'll be able to post pictures tonight of all the Halloween fun at Thing One's school and, of course, trick-or-treating.

For now, click here to carve your very own "virtual Jack-o-Lantern".  Click here for "Halloween Cat Bowling".

[Many thinks to Ms. Kristin for sending me these links.]

Technical Difficulties Redux

Still not up to full functionality here at blog.com.  I promise I'll have some pictures for you as soon as I can.

On The Needles

So, I have three scarves on the needles, and NONE of them are for me.  Of course, I have lots of scarves, but I am just about ready to make myself that multi-directional scarf with the yarn from my FKAL SP.  <I know you're out there, I believe I know who you are, and you have been terrific to me!>

#1 = The never-ending gold Wool-Ease Double Lace Rib scarf.  I measured tonight, and it's five feet long.  I finished the first skein and am over a foot of scarf into the second skein.  So, the two big questions on this are a) Should I make it longer, or should I stick a fork in it, and b) Should I add some fringe or leave it alone?

#2 = What I'm calling The Pinstripe Scarf.  Yarn is the black & white yarn from The Yarn Fairy.  I forget the name of the stitch I'm using, but it's from the first Barbara Walker book, and it has good vertical lines.  It's pulling in a lot, though, so I'm wishing I'd made it one repeat wider.  Oh, well; it will just be a narrow, '80's-style scarf.  Someone will like it.

#3 = Turkish Stitch scarf from some of the mystery yarn from Jeannette.  I really like how it looks.  I made Patricia's birthday scarf in this stitch, not knowing it had a name and was an official stitch.  I just thought it would look cool.  The yarn is working well for it.  As it pulls through my hand, it doesn't feel soft, but when I knit it up, the scarf doesn't feel scratchy at all.

Still trying to decide what to do with the yarn from Sherri.  I have about 400 yards of this interesting turquoise/multi yarn that says it's DK.  I'm wondering if I could double it and make a One-Skein Wonder out of it?  Not sure who I'd give such an animal to, though.  I certainly can't wear something like that.  No, no, no, no, no.  I would end up looking like, "Hi, I'm Erica, and these are..." well, you get the picture.  I suspect the solid turquoise cotton/viscose yarn will find its way into Adri's possession in some form; I just have to decide the form.  Hmmm....she'd look good in a One-Skein Wonder....

Haven't made a felted bag in what feels like ages.  That will be my next project, I think.  I've been keeping track of my inventory, and I think I only have six bags for the boutique, so I need to beef up that area.  Dani and I are doing another yarn trade (if she'd ever send me her address again - aHEM!), so I'll be getting my hands on a one-pound cone of LP worsted in black soon.  A while ago, I bought a pair of clip-on earrings and a brooch that I thought would look great as fasteners/embellishments on bags.  I have this vision of a simple, clean black bag with a glittery square earring as the closure.  We'll see if I can actually bring myself to make a whole bag out of just one color!  <BG>

Santa Cruz

Ahhhh....No kids...No dog...It's SO quiet around here.  Well, except for the dryer.  And the washer.  And the computers.  And "Cops" on TV.

The Things & Jenna went up to Poppa & Nana's house yesterday for the weekend.  We hopped in the big car and headed down to Santa Cruz for an overnighter before the church marriage workshop.  We stayed at the Coast Santa Cruz Hotel.  Now, a room's just a room unless you spend a lot of money.  However, if you click on the link for the hotel, you will see that it's ON the beach.  Not near the beach - ON the beach.  They built it narrow so that they only have rooms on the ocean side of the building, so every room has an ocean view and a balcony.  It was great.  We slept with the sliding glass door open all night so that we could hear the waves.  Talk about relaxing!

After hearing Gail talk about the night they had last night, I'm glad we didn't stay wherever they did, with the "pornographic" (her word, not mine) couple next door with the guy who snored like a...a...an I-don't-know-what. <VVBG>

We were supposed to ride down w/MarkyMark & Bobcat, but Bobcat decided she wanted to make the most of the opportunity to have a grown-up conversation w/her husband w/o anyone else around.  Imagine that!?  So, I grabbed my stuff for some "car knitting", and we hit the road.  Sadly, I forgot that the light would be failing.  Plus, trying to knit going down Highway 1 doesn't work too well.  <Note to self:  Next time you're a passsenger riding south through Devil's Slide, DON'T LOOK if you don't want to get freaked out, ya goofball!!!>

Dinner at Carniglia's on the pier.  Wow.  Hubby had steamed mussels w/a garlicky, tomatoey sauce, then cioppino.  I had prosciutto & melon, then grilled swordfish and double vegetables (no mashed potatoes).  Took him forever to eat the cioppino, so I had a couple of pieces of bread, then helped him a little with the broth (peppery goodness!).  We looked at the dessert menu, but decided we didn't want anything after all.  The dinner cost us almost as much as our room but it was great!  Grandpa Gil, you'd probably like this place.

Breakfast was a snack of raspeberry fig bars I'd brought from Mollie Stone's (thank you, Karen!), then they had coffee & bagels at the workshop.  Proud to say I passed up the cookies completely.  (I think they were from Costco anyway.)  Lunched w/MarkyMark & Bobcat at an Irish pub.  Fab salads.  How come Lee & Rhonda got served WAY before we did when they came in after we did?  Whussupwiddat?

Rode back home w/Gordon & Fiona, which was a real treat.  Just can't knit while riding on Highway 1.  Bummer!  After we dropped them off, we found some cheap gas and filled up the Pilot for only $45!  Isn't that pathetic?  "Only $45."  Feh!

Home at 5:30, in time to throw in some laundry, eat, check email, and pop in an early movie.  I just love "The Wedding Singer".  Hubby won't admit it, but he liked it, too.  I saw him laughing!  Adam Sandler is such a doofus, and it's hard not to love a movie about the '80's.

We get to turn the clocks back tonight.  Woo hoo!  An "extra" hour of sleep.  Of course, I've been drinking a ton of water today, so I won't sleep through the night, but it will be nice to be able to go back to bed after I get up and not have to feed the dog, let her out, feed the Things, etc., etc.

Knitting Update

Haven't touched the "pinstripe" scarf since Tuesday night.

I have, however, cranked on the gold Wool-Ease scarf.  I plan to finish it today, maybe tomorrow.

Last night when I was tired but still needed to stay up, I cast on for a simple Turkish Stitch scarf with some of the thin mystery yarn from Jeannette.  I used size 10's, so it's nice and open.

Almost There!

Well, we're almost back to normal here in BlogLand.  As you can see, the picture on the right is an actual picture of ME again.  Still no profile, and I still can't scale photos or put them in posts, but we're getting there.

Technical Difficulties, Part 2

OK, it's getting better slowly.  See, most of my sidebar is back, and I was even able to re-arrange it the way I wanted.

HOWEVER, that picture on the right of those two twenty-something party animals?  Not me.  Not hubby.  Not anyone I've ever met.  It's just some random picture.  Oh, well.

I'm really hoping to be back up to full blog-speed soon.....

Tuesday Knit Night

Knit night at Bayhill Starbucks last night was good.  A bit smaller than last week, but good.  Katie & Ada, where were you?  Rita, hope you're feeling better since the root canalS.

Helga is amazing.  Simply amazing.  You should see the gorgeous baby sweaters she showed us that she had made for her daughter (due in February).  The papoose she's working on is going to be fabulous, too.  She's doing a Fair Isle pattern in double-knit.  I really don't understand it, but it's turned inside out and closed, so all we can see is the wrong side of it right now.  Even so, I can tell it's going to be beautiful.

Jean is working on a beautiful pink alpaca lace & cable shawl.

Jeannette's current bag is bright colors with diamonds.

Jennifer is plugging away at her felted tote bag.

Amy, our newcomer, is using up all her oddments of yarn to make "square" slippers.

Me, I was working on a narrow scarf in garter stitch lattice lace out of that pinstripe black/white yarn from the Yarn Fairy.

OH, and the yarn magnet is still working!  As we were packing up to leave, Jean pulled out some Fun Fur in shades of purple to give me.  I just had to laugh.  "Stash Acquisition Beyond Live Expectancy"?  Oh, yeah.....

Technical Difficulties

Please be patient.  Blog.com made some changes that were supposed to make things better but, of course, there are many glitches, and, for the moment, it's making my blogging life a mess.

This morning, I see that part of my sidebar is back, but not all of it, and I'm still having lots of other problems.  I probably won't be uploading any new pictures until this stuff gets fixed.  Even if I do, I can't put them into posts, so you'd have to go check the albums to see them anyway.

As soon as stuff is back to normal, I'll start posting more again.
