Lace Birthday Scarf
Well, it’s a couple of days late, but I FINALLY finished Patricia’s lace scarf for her birthday. I did, however, call her on her birthday to tell her that I was making her something yellow (her favorite color) that wasn’t done yet and to wish her a good day.
This is also my first attempt at blocking. It looked OK not blocked, but you couldn’t really see the openwork. It looks MUCH better this way. On the corner of the bind-off end, I added a small silvery bead/charm that says “Made With Love”.
YARN: Mystery yellow acrylic fingering yarn from Merry. NEEDLES: US size 8 straight needles passed down from Nana. PATTERN: Made up in my head, not really much of a pattern, actually — I wanted something simple.
This was actually the third try on this scarf. I started once with a pattern I had, but I didn’t like how it was coming out after about 20 or 30 rows, so I frogged it. I started again with this unpattern, but made the mistake of working on it while I watched a movie, and ended up with too many mistakes to be able to give it to her. An “Amish mistake” or two is fine, but these were really noticeable. I tried to frog a few rows and fix the mistakes, but it didn’t work out, so I had frog the whole ratzen fratzen thing and start over.
This one has one or two mistakes, but nothing glaring like last time. I simply MUST remember that I can’t do stuff like this while watching TV. I just can’t!
I think she’ll really like it b/c it’s yellow and b/c it was made especially for her. She really liked the yellow & orange Sophie I made her a while back, too.
