Knitting For Katrina Victims

Yes, it’s hot & humid summer weather down there, but there IS a way you can knit for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.   Check out this Yahoo! group:

Grandma

05 Aug S Playing Teacher  Well, installment one of Grandma’s September visit is almost over; she leaves in about half an hour.  The girls have been having a blast with her.  They’ve played school, watched movies, played beauty shop (complete with a set of hot rollers Grandma bought herself yesterday), played board games, and had a “sleepover” on the futon in the living room last night.

Yesterday, MarkyMark, Bobcat & Andrei came over for dinner.  Andrei, Thing Two, and Grandma played a few rounds of Don’t Wake Daddy, plus I don’t know what all else.  She’s definitely gotten her preschool/early elementary kid fix for the weekend.

Here you see Thing One being the teacher as they play school.

From here, Grandma’s off to “Babysitter School” to learn the twins’ routine, etc., then over to Rick/Adri’s house.  She’ll be back here Friday night after going through Grandma Pitts’ pictures with Aunt Becky & Aunt Lila.  Thing One is SO excited that Grandma will be here for her birthday party next Saturday.

Sunday Houston Update

Here’s the latest unedited message from Terry:

Erica and friends….
I am so grateful for all you are doing…I am having a hard time responding to emails today without crying…. I am tired and emotional…You all have been so great.. Tell your friends thank you for me! Janet Marks sent our email to Roger Lamb in Boston who posted it in Disciples Today. I hope it helps somebody or motivates somebody’s heart. This has been great for our hearts here.

We started pairing up people who came to church to live with families here. People have called in to say they would fly people to their cities and take care of them.
Frontier Airlines is flying people free to Denver.  Many people just got themselves here, got into a hotel and are now trying to figure out what to do. I asked one man for his cell phone no. and he started to cry. He was the administrator for the New Orleans church. They are so frusterated. I guess if they activated their phone in New Orleans it won’t work with all those bases out. I realize why its so hard to reach people now. They have yet to find about 22 disciples in New Orleans, and  we are placing over 100 disciples’ family members without homes. Keep them in your prayers. I am hoping we hear that they just ran to a relative’s house or are held in a convention center somewhere.

They are letting people use phones in the convention center at certain hours, alternating the alphabet for some kind of order,  trying to contact relatives….but they could be anywhere. One 13 yr old boy was at the Conv. Center here and they finally found his mom in the Dallas Convention Center.

One disciple here had over 40 relatives in her home…we are trying to place them in homes, but they want to be near each other. Pray for them to let us help. We are still waiting for many family members to get here from all over the Gulf Coast. Wayne and Leyla Richard’s family lived in Biloxi and the house is completely gone. It just keeps coming, but we are really encouraged by all the prayers and offers of help! God knew we needed email to stay tied in to one another. I know this could happen to anyone, earthquakes etc and I am confident that we would all be there for each other.

Love Always,
Terry
