Edgar the Edgy Scarf

05 Sept Edgar 001  This is my attempt at an arty-farty picture of Edgar.  Isn’t he cool?  Edgar is made from the special yarn from my SP.  It took longer than I expected to make it, but it was well worth it.

The pattern calls for size 8’s, but I ended up having to use size 10’s b/c it was too tight.  If I make this again, I’ll probably even go up to 10 1/2’s so it will be softer and drape better.  I did twelve repeats as specified for a medium Edgar b/c I wasn’t confident I had enough yarn for 17 repeats, plus 12 seemed long enough.  I have a little bit of yarn left that I can use as an accent in a felted bag or something.

Thanks AGAIN, SP for the great yarn!

An interesting side-effect of making Edgar is that I’m going to be teaching another mom from Thing Two’s craft class how to make a simple triangle shawl.  She was fascinated by what I was doing and started asking me questions.  She just knows the knit stitch and wants to make something other than a rectangular scarf, so she asked if it was hard to make a shawl, so I told her to bring her needles & some yarn next Tuesday, and I’d show her how to do a really simple triangle.

Thing Two

Got a funny Thing Two story:

In her “Kindergarten Readiness” class, they’re doing a letter or two a day.  On Monday, one of the letters was I.  They were talking about things that start with the letter I, and Miss Claudia was trying to get them to say “iron”.  She asked them what was something mommies did with clothes, and Thing Two said “Knit!”  Miss Claudia cracked up.  I told her that was b/c Thing Two sees me knit almost every day, but could probably count on one hand the times this year she’s seen me iron!  <BG>

Slooooow Day

Woke up at 4:15 this morning with a major migraine.  Lost track of how many times I had to dash to the bathroom to puke.  Hubby took Thing One to school today.  Chrissy’s bringing her home any minute.  Didn’t get out of bed (other than to puke) till 12:30.  Brushed my teeth around 1:00 or 1:30.  So, no knitting so far today.  The Edgar is coming along, though.  Maybe I’ll post later on that.

Doing better now, so I just checked my 54 new emails.  Had one that included these words to a Kenney Chesney song that resonated with me.  I am *not* a fan of country music, but sometimes the words to their songs are really meaningful.  Get out your tissue….

Sunny days seem to hurt the most
I wear the pain like a heavy coat
I feel you everywhere I go
I see your smile, I see your face
I hear you laughin’ in the rain
Still can’t believe you’re gone

Chorus

It ain’t fair you died too young
Like a story that had just begun
But death tore the pages all away
God knows how I miss you
All the hell that I been through
Just knowin’ no one could take your place
Sometimes I wonder
Who you’d be today

2nd Verse

Would you see the world, would you chase your dreams
Settle down with a family
I wonder what would you name your babies
Somedays the sky’s so blue
I feel like I can talk to you
And I know it might sound crazy

(Repeat Chorus)

Today, today, today
Today, today, today

3rd Verse

Sunny days seem to hurt the most
I wear the pain like a heavy coat
The only thing that give me hope
Is I know
I’ll see you again some day
Someday, someday

Shawl - Progress

05 Sept Bobcat's Shawl Progress 001 Despite the knitting ADD (“Oh, look - some yarn!”), I have made some progress on Bobcat’s shawl.  I’m at a point now where I need to try it on her.  I don’t know exactly how big to make it.  I don’t want it to be as big on her as her bedspread, you know?

05 Sept Bobcat's Shawl Progress 002  Here’s a detail shot.

So, Bobcat, if you’re out there, why don’t you stop by and try this thing on so I know if I’m going to get anywhere close to starting the third skein of yarn (I just started the second one last night).

Knitting ADD

05 Sept Green Airy Scarf  YES, I know I’m supposed to be making Bobcat’s shawl, but it’s big, and it’s kind of boring b/c the rows are so long, so I take a break every once in a while and make something else.

PATTERN:  The “airy scarf” from the “Two- to Four-Hour Projects” chapter of Last-Minute Knitted Gifts (yes, I got it from the library again).  YARN:  mystery fuzzy green yarn from Merry (99.7% sure it’s acrylic; it’s certainly not Rowan Kidsilk Haze! <BG> )  NEEDLES:  I went up a size and used US 10 1/2’s.  I also added a couple of repeats b/c my gauge was off, and I didn’t want it to be too short to go around a normal-sized neck.

It didn’t look like much until I blocked it and opened up the lace.  Next time I’d probably use 11’s instead to make it just a little bit more open.  I really like the look of this scarf, and it’s SO easy!  I would love to see how it would be in some fancy yarn like the Rowan specified, but that’s for another time.

Swell Guy!

So, have I mentioned lately what a swell guy I married?  I tell ya, this hubby guy is really something else.

Here’s yesterday’s proof of how terrific he is:

05 Sept Sunday Flowers He thought I seemed sad yesterday morning, so when he & Thing One came home from church, he had these for me.  I can’t remember the last time he brought me flowers!  And this was extra-special b/c it wasn’t one of those occasions when I would expect flowers like Valentine’s Day or our anniversary.

05 Sept Clean Dog  What does a picture of Jenna have to do with hubby being a swell guy?  This isn’t just a picture of Jenna.  This is a picture of Jenna CLEAN.  She was really dirty, and I told hubby that it was his turn to give her a bath b/c I’d done her last two baths.  He did it w/o batting an eye.

And for you cynics out there — NO, he wasn’t buttering me up so that I’d feel OK about his going golfing later in the day.  Golf had been planned since Saturday, so this had nothing to do with it.

OK, LAST One…

What kind of flower are you?

You Are A Lily

You are a nurturer and all around natural therapist.
People see you as their rock. And they are able to depend on you.
You are a soothing influence. You can make people feel better with a few words.
Your caring has more of an impact than even you realize.

Funny, I *do* really love lilies…

Silly Quiz Time

Yes, folks, it’s Silly Quiz Time!  Click here for the “Cute Animal Quiz”.

Here are my results:

You Are A: Duckling!

The cutest of the cute, these baby ducks are often spotted in the spring following closely behind their mother. As a duckling you will grow up quickly, becoming one of the adult ducks seen commonly in ponds and streams. Playful and timid, charming and vulnerable, ducklings are nature’s very definition of innocence.

You were almost a: Lamb or a Pony
You are least like a: Squirrel or a Parakeet
