Well, not exactly. More like bicycles, scooters, and automobiles.
A week or two ago, hubby found a bike abandoned by the side of the road. He brought it home and repaired it (mostly) and gave it a couple of test rides. He decided he really liked the idea of a bike, but not that particular one. He’s talked in the past about getting a bike for commuting (he only works 3.5 miles from home), so this wasn’t a total surprise. After looking around on Craig’s List, he found one he liked, and last night he bought it. I’d post a picture of it, but he rode it to work this morning! He got a good deal on it — it looks nearly new, and it was only $125 with accessories. I don’t mind his spending the money b/c I know he’ll use it. Plus, who am I to object when I’ve spent so much money on yarn the last few months?! I’d feel better if he wore a helmet, though. (Grandma Ruthie, can you do some motherly pestering about that? ;-> ) Thing One is really looking forward to going bike riding with him. Hubby’s looking forward to using it as a way to take Jenna out for exercise. With her harness on instead of the collar, she can run along beside/ahead of him, especially if we get a slightly longer leash.
After putting down the $500 deposit for the new Highlander hybrid, hubby has decided not to get it. We’ll get our money back. When he found out that the model he wanted with all the features he wanted would be $42,000, he decided it just wasn’t worth it. We don’t drive enough to be saving enough in gas for that cost to be worth it. So, now he’s decided just to get a gently used 2004 regular Highlander. He said he was looking around, and we could get one for less than half the price of the new hybrid. Sounds a lot better to me! At this point, I’m just kind of along for the ride.
I think Thing Two really wants a scooter. She’s gotten very good with the tricycle, but it doesn’t go fast enough for her, and she keeps on trying to ride it like a scooter. Perhaps Santa will have to bring one for her. She’s definitely a bit of a daredevil. Grandma Ruthie would have had a heart attack watching her the other day.
