Yarn Swap

05 July Magenta Galway Accomplished the stash swap.  I sent off two skeins of Orchid Pink Lamb’s Pride worsted seconds to Dani in NY, who sent me these two skeins of magenta Galway.  This IS magenta, right?  Now the big question is exactly which bag to make from it….

Little Green Pain…I Mean Bag

05 July Small Bag Pre-Felt05 July Small Bag Post-Felt

This is the “Felted Little Green Bag” that was posted a while ago on KnitNet.  It was only up there temporarily, so, sadly, you can’t get it there any more.

On the left is pre-felting, and on the right is after a 14-minute wash cycle and 50 minutes in the dryer on “high”.  The yarn is some of that ancient Lopi my mom gave me a while back.

On the whole, I really like this pattern b/c it’s so quick to make.  HOWEVER, I did have some trouble.  The bag is supposed to have a flappydoodle with a button — the main reason I wanted to make the pattern (the other being that it was a little bigger than a Sophie) — but, as you can see, mine doesn’t.  When I went to join the handle, I realized that it had somehow ended up kind of “skew-gee” (a word my parents use); the handle wasn’t centered over the short sides of the rectangular base.  Putting on a flappydoodle was out of the question.  I liked how it looked, though, so I just felted it as is.  It reminds me of a “crossover bag” pattern I’ve seen out there online.

Oh, and after I finished knitting it yesterday, I started Angela’s birthday Sophie (don’t worry, Adri — yours will be done when I bring the girls for their sleepover).  Got the base done and was working on the second row of the sides when I saw a hole waaaaay down in the base.  It was late, and I wasn’t up to trying to fix it, so I frogged the whole thing.  Oh, well.  Today I’m tired and in no state of mind to knit, so I’ll leave it for tomorrow.  She says she likes black and purple and patterns, so it should be fun to make.  I have an extra skein of black Galway for the body, and some dribs and drabs of leftover purple from Sophie the 2nd & the purple flower pin for Teacher Sherin.  Maybe I’ll even strand in some black Fun Fur for a row or two near the top (use up that stash!)….
