Thing One’s Story

Thing One got inspired by watching Jo in “Little Women” and wrote her own story.  She gave me permission to post it here.  I’m typing it verbatim, complete with mistakes and misspellings, etc., so here goes:

THE FIRST HOUSE

Once upon a time thre lived a widow.  Her name was Mrs. Josafen.  She lived alone in a cottag.  Her house was pink.  She also had a dog.  The dog was a girl.  It’s name was Sally.  Her nabrihood was little.  She had a frind too.  It was a boy.  His name was Laurie.  She liked him a lot.  One day Laurie asked Josafen to go on a date with him.  She said yes.  So they went.  Then he droped her of.  Sally was glad to see Josafen.  She was so glad that she jumped on Josafen.  The next day Laurie asked Josafen to mary him.  She said yes.  So they did.  The end.

Belated Photos

05 May Chrissy's Bday Gifts05 May Halo Blue Scarf Completed Yesterday, I *finally* finished the roll of film in the old camera.  I had some pretty old pics on there, including these two.  The one on the left is the winter/summer set I made for Chrissy for her birthday.  The one on the right is the halo blue Divine scarf I’ve mentioned before.  Sorry these pics are so late.  Amazing — something that’s not a felted bag or a baby hat!  ;->

Last Day of School

05 June Last Day of School 00505 June Last Day of School 01605 June Last Day of School 025 Well, today was the last day of school — yippee!  I can’t believe Thing One is officially a second-grader now.  When did she get so old?

All the kindergarteners and first graders — all 120 or so of them — with the teachers and assorted family members walked over from the school to a local park for their annual picnic/barbecue today.  Every family was asked to chip in some $$ for supplies.  Last year, they had us bring stuff, but this year one of the kindergarten moms works for Costco, so they gave her the $$ and her pick it all up.

I knew Thing Two wasn’t going to do well with the walk, so we met them at the park.  A good time was had by all, complete with the usual drama/traumas:  Colin stuck his finger in a gopher hole and got bitten (Hope he doesn’t get rabies!);  Ben’s little brother puked;  various kids fell and needed ice packs.  Oh yeah, then there was the rain.  Yup, rain in June.  The rain wasn’t due till late afternoon, but by 11:45ish, it started.  All those poor kids had to walk back to the school in the rain, and not a one of them had a hat or a rain coat.  Some even just had on short-sleeved shirts, no sweatshirt or anything.  Crazy!

I was hoping to go out after school with some friends, but it turned out that both families I had in mind had kids going to a second-grader’s movie bday party right after.  So, the girls and I just went down the street to McDonald’s for ice cream.  I wanted to take them to the nice ice cream parlor in our old neighborhood, but they just wanted McDonald’s soft serve cones.  At $1.05 each, that was a better deal, so I didn’t fight it.  The place was packed with teenagers from the high school across the street.  I hope the girls didn’t learn any new words!  Thing Two did at one point say, “She said a bad word”, but I know she meant “stupid”.  They don’t hear the other ones often enough to know that they’re bad words.  I hope.  I may eat my words tomorrow when they’re fighting and one of them pops out.

Tomorrow, we’re planning a jammie day.  Should be nice.  I promised the girls cinnamon rolls and sausages for breakfast.  We’ll have to snuggle up and watch movies and read books all day.  The rainy, yukky weather will be perfect for it!

Big Hips

Click here to read about how those of us with bigger hips are going to live longer than, say, MaryKate/Ashley, Calista Flockhart, and Uma Thurman.
