Summer -> Barbecue!

05 May Weber Before05 May Weber After

Hubby put together the new Weber yesterday.  It was SO easy.  Then, he cooked up some tri-tip and chicken thighs.  YUMM!  It was all I could do not to have a second big piece of meat.  He finally opened the box on the “basic grill cover” I got him for Christmas in 2001.  Can’t wait for all the great stuff that’s going to come off this grill in the future.  He’s already talking about wanting to barbecue a whole turkey…

You’re Elected, Charlie Brown!

Well, it wasn’t much of an election, but I’m now on the PTA board for next school year.  I chose the easiest job — hospitality chair.  Next year, when Thing Two is starting kindergarten, I’ll go for a bigger job.

The election went like this:  The VP, who was running the meeting, read of the list of names of people who had volunteered for each of the positions.  Only one person had offered for each one, so there was no competition, and everyone was a shoe-in.  The whopping 12 people at the meeting then voted verbally on whether to approve the list or not.  There were no “nay” votes, so we were in.

Hubby kept joking that I was going to be president, but 1) I don’t want that job and 2) I’d be a failure at it b/c I’m not a liberal.  I would get grief from the state PTA Council for not wanting to do stuff like use PTA resources to promote the anti-Schwartzenegger rally a week ago that was ostensibly in support of Prop 98.  I was pleasantly surprised to see that the president addressed the “parental concerns” about this in the meeting (we had dropped off an anonymous note in the office, but the secretary saw me drop it off, so they knew it was from us).  They never really answered the question of whether using PTA funds for political activism was a violation of our non-profit status, but at least it got addressed a little bit.

When we have our big Memorial Day barbecue next weekend, I’m sure the PTA pres and her hubby will be just thrilled with our “Bush/Cheney 04″ sign in the back yard.  About the only way we could possibly offend the more is to have something religious out there, too.  (Well, OK, they’d be offended by some other stuff, too, but those are the only things offensive to them that we’d be at all likely to do.)

Grandma

Well, we’re having a great time with Grandma.  Pretty low-key, not doing a lot, but it’s still fun.  Yesterday, we dropped off Thing One at school, then went to go pick her up from my BIL and SIL’s place.  On the way home, we stopped at the cemetery for a bit.  It suddenly hit me this morning that I didn’t totally pig out all day afterwards like I have all the other times we’ve gone.  This is a major victory for me!

For lunch, Thing Two, Grandma, hubby & I had “tea party lunch”.  Some of the school gang got to meet Grandma when we went to pick up Thing One and hang out for ice cream afterwards.

Last night, the Things had a “sleepover” w/Grandma.  We let her have our bed, and the girls squeezed in on either side of her.  We never got around to unfolding the futon for us, so I slept on one, and hubby slept in Thing Two’s bed.  Not as comfy as our fabulous TempurPedic bed, but certainly better than the futon.

Today, they’ve had a big pancake & sausage breakfast, gone to the farmer’s market, watched a movie, played “Noah’s Ark” and a game, and goodness knows what all else.  Oh yes, they also played “jewelry”.  Grandma is the perfect one to teach them to be girly.

Tonight, we’re probably going to head out to the KFOG Kaboom.  Should be interesting.  In years past, we’ve seen it from the car, but we’ve never bundled up and gone down there.  Hope Grandma doesn’t freeze to death!
