March of Dimes Update

FYI, we’ve had some late donations (it’s not too late; you can still donate), and our total is up.  We ran out of the nice photo thank you cards because we ONLY ordered 100 of them, so I had to order some more this morning with an updated amount.

The new grand total amount that hubby and I have raised for the March of Dimes, thanks to all the incredibly generous people out there, is…..$5,520!  Pretty amazing.  We’re really humbled by the response we’ve gotten.  Thank you, thank you, wonderful people!

More Scarves

Here are a couple of scarf patterns I found this morning on www.knitty.com archives.  They’re from a special Breast Cancer Awareness Month printable issue.  They would look great in a soft, pink yarn — perhaps the Divine I have in Floral Fantasy or Richest Rose.

The printable issue also has a pattern for a chemo hat and some soft “comfort socks”.  Seeing all this struck a chord with me and made me think of my late Nana, my Aunt Ann, my friend Carol, my co-Curvette Diane, and my friend Robin’s late mom Jean, who all experienced breast cancer.  Make one sometime in honor of a friend or for a friend who’s battling the disease.

Yarn Lust

Lust is rather a strong word, but it really seems like the best word for it.  “Yarn greed” would probably work, too.  Hubby asked me the other night if this current scarf was from the stash he recently let me buy (it is).  Then he asked why he had seen me looking at yarn.  I said, “I was just LOOKING, not BUYING.  There’s a big difference!”  Later on, it occurred to me that my answer made about as much sense as the married person who’s been confronted on having a wandering eye saying, “I was just LOOKING.  I didn’t DO anything!”  Yeah, right.  So what?!  Doing doesn’t happen until after there’s been some looking and some thinking first.  If I’m looking at yarn and looking at yarn and looking at yarn, eventually I’ll buy some, even though I’ve got plenty of yarn at home.  So, no more looking at yarn for a while until I actually need some for something specific.  Otherwise, I might do something really stupid like buying some of this gorgeous lace weight mohair I saw online that was $52.50 per seven-ounce skein on a DISCOUNT yarn site.  DISCOUNT.  I don’t even want to think about how much it’s supposed to cost!

Math Impaired

Well, I guess I’m “math impaired”.  The current scarf is going to take closer to two skeins, not “just over one” as reported earlier.  The pattern calls for six ounces of yarn.  The Divine comes in skeins of three and a half ounces.  Hello!  McFly!  Six divided by three and a half is NOT “just over one”.  Duh!  It’s nearly done, by the way.  It’s so soft and pretty.  I just can’t figure out who to give it to.  A former roomie of mine had a bday on Thursday, and I considered giving it to her, but it’s definitely not her color.  Even hubby looked at it and said, “That looks like a blonde person’s color.”  He’s right!  The ice blue definitely wouldn’t have worked for Beanhead with her Italian black hair and olive skin; she favors bright red.  So, I still have to figure out who gets it…

Gopher 1, Jenna 0

Hubby took Jenna to the park yesterday evening to run around for a while.  When they were there, she started going after a gopher.  The way he described it, she would dig some, then actually get a grip on the top part of the gopher’s tunnel and rip up the dirt & grass with her teeth.  She chased the gopher 25 feet or more down the tunnel before she hit a dead end.  As she dug, hubby tried to fill in behind her so they didn’t leave a big trench.  When they came home, she was SO dirty!  (Hubby was, too!)  She was making weird hacking noises for a while, too.  I think she got some dirt down her throat.  Blech!  Between chasing the ball and pursuing the gopher, she was exhausted.  She was barely able to walk over to her bed and collapse.

So, for now, the score is:  Gopher 1, Jenna 0.
