I’m loving this lace knitting stuff. Right now, I’m working with some Patons Divine in Halo Blue (sort of an ice blue). This isn’t really a lace weight mohair, but with the right pattern, it works. I tried a couple of different things and wasn’t happy. The closest I came was an openwork thing done with one strand of Denim Storm and one strand of Halo Blue. It was really thick and warm, but it wasn’t coming out right. This yarn doesn’t frog well, so I just bound it off and gave it to the Things for a Barbie/doll blanket.
After some extensive looking around on the Internet for free patterns (I hate paying for patterns!), I found one that’s working really well. It’s a very simple “feather and fan” pattern. It looks like it’s going to take about a skein or so, maybe a bit more. Here’s the link to the pattern (scroll down below the baby bootie pattern). Can’t decide what I’m going to do with this scarf when it’s done, whether it’s going to be a gift or if I’m going to keep it for myself….
Thing One’s teacher loved her scarf. Of course, I forgot to take a picture of it for the blog. I’ll have to ask her if she would let me take a picture of her wearing it.
This morning, I was looking around for lace weight mohair. I’ve found some cool patterns that would work best with a truly lace weight yarn, not the fatter stuff I’m currently using. Oh, my goodness! There’s some gorgeous stuff out there! Of course, it’s $12 to $16 (or more!) per skein instead of the $4.99 I paid for the Patons. No wonder I like it so much.
Got some knitting books from Amazon with a gift certificate I received. I’m really looking forward to using them. One is Knitting for Dummies, the other Kids Knits. The Things have been having fun looking through the Kids Knits book, picking out what they want me to make for them. My favorite is probably the fish sweater on the cover, but the others are pretty cool, too. Thing One says she wants a sweater in her school colors for school next year.
